William Joseph Mulvaney

William “Mully” Mulvaney Mully was born on August 21, 1928 in East Providence Rhode Island to Greta Cyr and Walter Mulvaney. He passed away February 19, 2015 at the age of 86. Mully was the eleventh of twelve children. He grew up in Rhode Island and was very athletic in his teenage years. He earned a scholarship to St Raphael Academy in Rhode Island – a private Catholic School. He was an avid sportsman - played football, basketball, baseball and boxing. He was well known in his high school days and was frequently in the sports section of the local newspaper - being mentioned as saving the game. He played semi-pro baseball before being drafted in the US ARMY service in 1951. While in the service he played baseball for Camp San Luis Obispo where he also met his future wife JoAnn Hamilton. He was honorably discharged in 1952 and was married in 1953 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He then settled in Visalia, CA and worked at Pacific Bell for 30 years. After retiring , he was also a GTE inspector. Mully was a devoted husband, and a wonderful father. He was a great family man and with his wife JoAnn hosted numerous parties for family and friends for every occasion – birthdays, New years, Thanksgiving, Christmas eve, Super Bowl Sundays etc. He welcomed everybody and all to these parties. His beef barbecue was arguably the “best” including his mashed potatoes and cheese dreams. He loved to play golf during retirement. He especially loved to visit with his daughter Claudia in his later years. He was a faithful Catholic parishioner and was a member of St Mary’s Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Visalia Elk’s Lodge. His grandchildren Molly and Ryan were the apple of his eye. Mully leaves behind JoAnn his wife of 61 years; children – Matt Mulvaney and his wife Erlinda, Claudia Mulvaney, grandchildren Molly and Ryan Mulvaney, sisters Barbara Tougas, Lois Lewis , numerous nieces and nephews, and his faithful chihuahua Bennie. He was preceeded in death by parents Walter and Greta and nine other siblings. Special thanks to Mike Travers for being such a good and caring friend to Mully. Thanks to the staff of Magnolia Park Assisted Living for the excellent care they provided not only to Mully but to the family as well. There will be a private graveside service for family members.
