Wanda Vert

Wanda Lee Dearing was born on February 14, 1928 in Ellis County, Oklahoma to Pete and Marie Dearing. Wanda's early years were marked by the challenges of farming and a life of modest means, where shoes were a luxury, and hard work was a constant. In 1937, the Dearing family made the journey to California in search of a better life and more opportunities. They settled in Coalinga where Wanda would spend most of her life. As a graduate of Coalinga High School, Wanda went on to work as a secretary for the Coalinga School District, where she met a bright young teacher, Robert Vert. They quickly fell in love and as Wanda would say, "the rest is history". They were married on January 18, 1952. Together, Wanda and Bob built a life full of love, laughter, and adventure. They welcomed two children, Douglas MacRae in February 1953 and Kimberlee Marie in January 1956. Over the years, Bob rose through the ranks at the school district while Wanda worked part-time and dedicated herself to creating a warm and welcoming home for everyone to gather. Their door was always open. Wanda and Bob traveled extensively, taking family vacations across the United States, cruising with friends around the world, and remaining active in their church and service clubs. However, it was the arrival of grandchildren that brought her the greatest joy. She doted on her grandchildren, reading countless stories in her favorite rock-a-baby chair, always patient, always loving....even when asked to read the same book "again" for the umpteenth time. As Wanda's family grew to include 10 great grandchildren, her love and care for them never wavered. From Colorado to California, she kept up with each of them, finding ways to be involved in their lives and continuing to share her love and wisdom. Wanda's kindness, generosity, and sense of humor made her a beloved figure in her family and community. She was known for her patience and her skill at card games. Gin Rummy was her super power, she could expertly win with a straight face, always enjoying a good-natured victory dance afterward. Wanda was the heart of her family, and her absence will leave a void in the lives of all who knew her. She leaves behind her children, Douglas and Kimberlee; her 4 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends. Wanda's legacy of love, laughter, and devotion will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Memorial services will be held 11:00 AM Sunday, February 16th, 2025 at University Presbyterian Church, 1776 E Roberts Ave, Fresno. Services have been entrusted to Salser & Dillard Funeral Chapel.
