Sharon Irene Martin

Sharon Irene Martin (Silva), a devoted wife, mother, nana, and cherished member of the Tulare, California community, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on January 11, 2024. Born in Tulare on May 1, 1946, Sharon lived a life marked by dedication, resilience, and commitment to her family and community. At the age of 77, after a courageous and intermittent 23-year battle with cancer, she left us, leaving behind a legacy of strength and love. Sharon is survived by her loving husband, Mario Martin; her son, Todd Martin of Visalia, California, and his wife, Joy Martin; and her cherished granddaughters, Kate and Quinn Martin, daughters of Todd and Joy. She is also survived by her brother, Manuel (Manny) Silva. Sharon was predeceased by her son, Chad Martin, and her parents, Manuel and Dollie Silva. Sharon was born in a quaint farmhouse in Tulare, California. Her childhood was a mosaic of experiences, shaped by attending multiple schools as her family moved between houses and school districts. These early experiences taught her how to adapt quickly and navigate challenges with grace and resilience. From a young age, she learned the value of flexibility, the art of forming new relationships, and the importance of maintaining a positive outlook in the face of change. These qualities not only defined her childhood but also became the cornerstone of her strength and character throughout her life. Her career began at Mid State Savings and Loan in Tulare, where she first met Mario. They married on August 16, 1969, and welcomed their first son, Chad, in 1971. After moving back to Tulare in 1973, shortly before the birth of their second son, Todd, Sharon stepped away from corporate life to devote herself to caring for her family. She played a pivotal role in her sons' lives, always wanting the best for them, never missing any event that they were part of and making sure they had the trendiest items at the time or most up to date sporting equipment. Following her father's passing in 1981, Sharon devoted herself to supporting her mother, who never had a driver's license. She ensured that Dollie had everything she needed, accompanying her everywhere evolving into an inseparable and special mother-daughter connection, a testament to Sharon's loving and nurturing nature. Sharon returned to work in 1992, joining the City of Tulare's Redevelopment Agency. Her exceptional loan expertise and dedication significantly impacted the Tulare community, revitalizing neighborhoods and instilling pride in Tulare's residents. Her outstanding service earned her the Employee of the Year award twice, a testament to her commitment and skill. She retired in 2006 after 16 years of diligent service. A woman who always put her family first, Sharon's love and dedication were the cornerstones of her life. Her ability to tackle the most challenging tasks with grace and determination was an inspiration to all who knew her. Sharon's impeccable style sense of "always dressed to impress" clothing and jewelry reflected her vibrant and meticulous nature. Whether at home or out in the community, her well-kept appearance and style never failed to make a lasting impression. In addition to her fashion, Sharon had a profound love for reading, often spending her late evenings immersed in a good book. Her annual trips to Lake Tahoe with Mario were equally cherished, where she found tranquility and a welcome respite amongst the serene waters and fresh air. Sharon's unwavering commitment to her family, her courage in the face of adversity, and her profound impact on her community will forever be remembered and cherished along with her legacy of love, strength, and perseverance that will continue to inspire and guide us. A service to celebrate Sharon's life is scheduled for Tuesday, January 30th, at 10:00 AM at Salser and Dillard Funeral Chapel. This will be followed by a graveside service at Tulare Cemetery on Kern Avenue. A reception will be held at 1:00 PM at the Visalia Country Club. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Tulare Historical Museum in her memory. Services have been entrusted to Salser & Dillard Funeral Chapel.
