Randy Alan Atherton

Some people leave behind accomplishments. Others leave memories. Randy Alan Atherton left both. Born in Exeter, California, in 1958 to James and Eunice, Randy grew up surrounded by family, friendships, faith, and the values that guided his life. He graduated from Woodlake High School in 1976, attended College of the Sequoias, and earned his degree in physical education from Westmont College in Montecito. He began his career teaching before joining Xerox, where he discovered his gift for sales. That path led him to Apple in the mid-1980s, where he built an outstanding career that took him across the United States, to England, and back home to California. Yet wherever Randy lived, he built something even more lasting than his career. He built friendships and a stronger relationship with God that lasted a lifetime. Randy was a devoted father to Ashly and Trevor, and a loving son, brother, cousin, and friend. Golf, travel, good food, and great company brought him joy because, to Randy, they meant time with people he loved. On the yearly trips he and his friend Dave took to England and Spain to meet up with friends for golf and laughter, he was known as "Buzz," a nickname inspired by Buzz Lightyear. That name stayed within that special group-a reminder of the playfulness and fun Randy carried with him among friends. When he returned to Visalia two years ago, it was meant to be temporary. But he and Mom became the perfect team. She cared for him, he cared for her, and those everyday moments became an unexpected gift. In Randy's final week, that love came rushing back. Friends and family from near and far, along with messages from across the United States and Europe, spoke to the life he lived and the people who cherished him. He passed peacefully on August 6th, gently and without struggle, surrounded by love, knowing God was waiting with open arms. His life reminds us that what lasts isn't found in titles or resumes, but in the friends and family who carry us forward. By that measure, Randy lived an extraordinary life. A Celebration of Randy's Life will be held on Saturday, September 19th, at 12:00 noon at the Visalia Country Club, 625 N Ranch St, Visalia, CA 93291. Family and friends are invited to join us for a buffet lunch and to share memories of Randy. The gathering will also be livestreamed. Additional details will follow.
