John James Maguire

John James Maguire, age 86, passed away peacefully at home on August 29, 2025, surrounded by his family that he adored. He is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Jan; his children, Michael Patrick Maguire (Tina) of Hanford, CA, and Laurie Ann Maguire (Abby) of Potomac Falls, VA; his grandchildren, John Ancel Maguire (Dakota) and Tabitha Leann Maguire (Harley), both of Visalia, CA; and his cherished great-grandchildren, Hayden James Hall Maguire, Genesis Bonnie Hall Maguire, Bonnie Jane Maguire, Zane Everett Hall Maguire, and Luke Justyn Maguire - who will carry his love, his humor, and his stories with them as they grow. John will also be remembered with gratitude and affection by Jan's son Ron Beatty (Christina), his many friends and extended family, notably his devoted caretakers - Sayuri, Mariana, and Nancy. Born April 10, 1939, in San Francisco, CA, to John Vincent and Irene May Maguire, John grew up in Glen Park and graduated from Polytechnic High School before attending S.F. City College and the University of San Francisco, where he studied Management and Labor Relations. He proudly served six years in the U.S. Navy Reserve (Active Duty 1958-1960). John retired from Pacific Bell as a manager in 1990. He later earned his California Real Estate Broker's License and practicing in the Bay Area before moving to Visalia in 2000 with his beloved wife of 58 years, Bonnie Jean Maguire, who preceded John in death. A lifelong learner and community leader, John was a member of both Toastmasters and Rotary International. Embracing life and discovering love again, John met and married Jan Beatty at Visalia United Methodist Church in 2020. Together they shared countless joys- whether traveling the world (most memorably a cruise through the Panama Canal in 2022), playing bridge, attending the theater and symphony, or supporting local music and philanthropic programs. John will be remembered for his kind heart, his quick wit, his infectious laughter, and his love for a good joke, which brought warmth and joy to everyone blessed to know him. Services will be held at the Visalia United Methodist Church, 5200 W. Caldwell Ave, Visalia on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at 10:30 am. Reception to follow.
