Hubert Leon Hopper

Hubert Leon Hopper was born in Whitewright, Texas to Jasper and Patsy (Tommy) Hopper on July 5, 1934. He left this earth to be with his beautiful wife of 65 years, Mary Hopper, on September 13, 2020. Hubert was preceded in death by 3 sisters and 1 brother. He is survived by his younger brother, Joe Hopper; his children Toni, Teri and Rick, who blessed him with 9 grandchildren. In turn they blessed him with 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Two of his employment experiences were at Sprague Electric and House of Sight and Sound. He was an honest and skilled sales person. He actually promoted his last employer on television commercials in the 1960's. Hubert was known by many names. Some of them were: Scars, Uncle Rupert, Grandpa and, most often, Hoppy. In the early 1960s Hubert and his family moved from Los Angeles to Tulare County. He wanted to raise his family in a small town. He originally moved to Tulare and later built a house in Visalia. He resided there until his departure. Hubert was a very proud man. He was raised back in the day where a man's word was a contract that was honored. He was a man of few words. But when he spoke, it was with words of wisdom. He enjoyed golf, coffee with his buddies, and going to the gym. He loved telling golf jokes, which usually ended with him chuckling and a twinkle in his eye. He was a meticulous landscaper. The orange tree in the front yard was always skillfully manicured. He also took great pride in raising Sago palms, of which he had many. He enjoyed his wife and family. He would BBQ steak for the grandchildren and have "tasting time" around the grill. He was an expert griller. He often gave the grandchildren so many samples of steak that they hung around him like hungry baby birds. He had an insatiable desire for sweets. Many of his grandchildren enjoyed the benefits of his sweet tooth after supper. He enjoyed the Golf Channel, Nature Channel, news broadcasts, boxing, and old westerns. During his last years he spent more time with family. He blessed us by sharing dinner with us most every evening. These family meals always began with prayer. Before he left an event, or was finished visiting, he would say goodbye and give everyone a big hug accompanied by several pats on the back. We can sense his loving embrace even now, and are comforted. Hubert Leon Hopper, 86 of Visalia, California, died on Sunday, September 13, 2020, in Visalia, California.
