Gerald Craig Bergdorf

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Gerald Craig Bergdorf, a remarkable man with an indomitable and tenacious spirit. Jerry as he was affectionately called , was born on March 29, 1948, and peacefully passed away on March 12, 2026. Born into a humble family in Akron, Ohio, Jerry moved to California in 1955. He grew up in the San Fernando Valley and graduated from Canoga Park High School before proudly serving in the United States Air Force as a jet mechanic. Later, he raised his two children in Chatsworth, California, where he started his construction business, Creative Design. A skilled mason and carpenter, there was no craft Jerry could not master. He devoted his time and energy to the Chatsworth Junior Baseball League Association, coaching his son's baseball team which he was immensely proud of. Later in life, Jerry moved to Visalia, California, where he met his second wife, Cyndy Bergdorf, a dedicated LVN at the convalescent center where they both worked. Jerry served as the Director of Maintenance and devoted himself to improving the grounds and environment for residents. His creativity and dedication are still visible today in the beautiful gazebo he designed and built, a lasting example of his artistry and pride in his work. Jerry was a loyal Los Angeles Dodgers fan, often taking his son to games at Dodger Stadium. He fancied himself quite the dancer, and could be found dancing at holiday parties with his daughter. Jerry also found joy in bridge, backgammon, telling a mischievous joke, visiting his grandkids, and cherishing family vacations, from camping at Twin Lakes to yearly trips to Pismo with Cyndy. Jerry will be remembered for his unwavering work ethic and his commitment to helping others. A testament to his contributions is "Jerry's Cottage," named in his honor upon his retirement from the convalescent center. Jerry is survived by his beloved wife, Cyndy Bergdorf; his two cherished children, son Adam (Valerie) Bergdorf and daughter Breana (Chase) Schaeffer; and his adored grandchildren, Maximillian, Gavin, Chase, and Aurora. He also leaves behind his sister, Vivian Heiserman and nephews Robbie and David. He was preceded in death by his parents, Genoma Lucille Hedrick and Clarence Gerald Bergdorf. We are so grateful to all our family, friends, and loved ones who have reached out and shared their "Jerry Stories." If you knew Jerry, you know that laughter was never in short supply around him-hilarious stories came in spades! He truly loved life and treasured the memories he made with each of you. In keeping with Jerry's wishes, there will be no formal funeral service. Instead, we invite you to celebrate his memory in your own way-share a story, a laugh, or a moment that reminds you of him. A private family gathering will be held at a later date. Thank you for keeping his joy and spirit alive through your stories.
