Charlotte Ramona McKean

Charlotte McKean of Visalia passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on December 17, 2018 at the age of 81. Charlotte Ramona Chandler was born to Clayborn and Catherine Chandler April 11th, 1937 in Marietta Georgia. She was the oldest of 8 children... (Jackie, Ellen, Jerry, Ann, Linda, Kathy & Sharon). She attended Acworth High School and met her husband Gary Hays McKean their senior year. They were married December 23, 1955 almost 63 years ago. A highlight of early years together was gathering with friends at "The Beach House" on Lake Acworth and dancing the night away! Charlotte and Gary were both employed by Lockheed Int'l after graduation before moving out to California. They settled in Visalia in 1965 where they eventually started their own business, McKean Pest Control. They also built several homes in this time frame. Charlotte was a working Mom and was employed by Bank of America and then SCE company where she was an executive secretary until retiring. She sewed and still managed to get a hot meal on the table for dinner each night. She supported her husband's passion of coaching youth sports and was always "Team Mom". One of her proud accomplishments was chaperoning his Pop Warner football team and cheer leaders to Hawaii to play in the Pan American International friendship bowl. She loved watching her kids in all their sports/activities and would work through lunch to not miss a game or event! Charlotte and Gary were lucky to retire early and traveled to 49 states. They moved to the Florida Keys for 11 years and enjoyed snorkeling, fishing, lobstering and tennis. Their kids were able to visit on their vacations and enjoy this fun location as well. They moved back to CA and built a home in Cambria. The grandkids all have special memories of long walks on the beach, boogie boarding, playing games etc,. As time went on the Grandkids were all getting into sports and Charlotte and Gary built another home in Visalia so they could support this next generation of family in their special events. Charlottes health declined further and they eventually moved back permanently to Visalia to be closer to family. She is survived by her husband, Gary H. McKean, their 3 children Kim Rodriguez (David) Georgia, Kristi Swearingen (Craig) Visalia, A.G., and Monte McKean (Jackie) Visalia. Her grandchildren, Jarod, Andrea, Lynsi, Ryan, Chandler and Cassidi and 7 great grandchildren. (Her grandkids gave her such joy these past tough years.) Also survived by 6 of her siblings and her Mother Catherine Chandler who will be 97 in January. We would like to thank her wonderful caregivers, Eepi Saesee & Kathy Seechan and Sojourn Hospice. We are forever grateful to all of you for providing such amazing care for our loved one during this difficult journey. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Charlottes name to Sojourn Hospice. Celebration of Life Services will be held January 11, 2019 at 11:00 AM in the Christ Lutheran Church Visalia.
