Calvin "Dennis" Shewey Jr.

Calvin "Dennis" Shewey Jr., was born on February 1, 1948 in Tulare, California and to our great sadness passed away, Friday, November 15, 2019 surrounded by his family. Dennis was a lifetime resident of Tulare County. Dennis was preceeded in death by his father, Calvin Dennis Shewey, Sr., his mother Betty Jean Gilbert, and his beloved brother Douglas Shewey. Dennis is survived by his wife Susan, sister Denise Graham, son Randall (Cherri) Shewey, daughter Valarie (Chad) Mahan, step son Teddy Lee, step daughter Cari Bortfeld, grandchildren; Joshua, Chloe, Danielle, Lizzie, Katie, Michael, Anthony, Lucas, Gigi and great grandchildren Abby and Adam. Dennis was an avid outdoorsman. In his earlier years he was able to fulfill a lifelong dream of being a cowboy, working the annual round up and cattle drive from the high country. He loved fishing, taking annual trips to Baja with "the boys", he loved catching Dorado and spending time in Mexico with his brother Doug, his sons Randy, Chad and Teddy, his grandson Josh and many dear friends. Deer hunting was a long standing tradition in the Shewey family, he grew up hunting with his father and as he raised a family, that time hunting deer was enjoyed with his own son and grandson, it was their special time to spend together every year. Dennis knew Kings Canyon like the back of his hand; the mountains are where he felt the most at peace. Dennis's love for the mountains and Hume Lake was first nurtured by his grandparents, Leonard and Helen Bryant, they spent quality time camping and fishing with their grandson. Dennis was a true family man, he loved family barbecues, enjoying a glass of red wine and feeding everyone, always particular to pick out the best steaks. Often times Dennis would get caught looking around at all of us, eyes filled with tears out of the love and happiness he had surrounded by family. Dennis loved Jimmy Buffet, Cheech and Chong, Tina Turner and many other artists. Word is, he had some pretty good disco moves as well. Dennis took great pride in his work, spending the last 35 plus years in electrical sales. He was the consummate "people person", he loved his customers and also considered them his friends. Directly quoted by Dennis's children, "He loved her, he called her his �Bella', his license plate says, �pray for me, my wife is Italian.'" Susan was his love, and his best friend. Early morning, denim button up shirts and old cowboy movies will always remind us of his spirit and style Dennis, you will be forever missed and always in our hearts.
