Alfredo - Vazquez

On Thursday Dec. 31st Our Heavenly Father called for Alfredo. Alfredo passed away quickly and pain free in Fresno CA. Alfredo, or Jefe to his Family, was a descendant of European ancestry & the Tarahumara Indians of Chihuahua Mexico. Born in Presidio, Texas in May of 1917, Alfredo was one of eleven brothers and sisters. Music, family and a tie to the land were corner stone’s his life. In his adult life, Alfredo moved to Los Angeles, CA and in August of 1943 married the beautiful Cruz D. Vazquez and began to grow his family. Through these years he became involved in community organizations & was moved to educate and spread social equality. In April of 1964, Alfredo & his family of 10 established roots in Goshen CA. By this time he had a deep devotion to La Causa, a peaceful a fight for social justice and equality for farm laborers. He was a proud founding member of the United Farm Workers (UFW) and for many years dedicated himself to the service of the organization and its leaders. His journey with the UFW took Alfredo and his family to many places and introduced them to countless humanitarians, political leaders, musicians and hard workers dedicated to the cause. Family, friends, faith, music and grandkids filled his life and fueled his incredible will to live until his time came. Alfredo was blessed with a full and long life, in which he guided, inspired and loved so many. His legacy of community activism, equality and justice will eternally live on! His journey home will reunite him with his children Carlos M. Vazquez and Carmen Vazquez Canales, and many other loved ones. What a joyful celebration it will be. His physical presence will forever be missed but his family is taking comfort in knowing that he is in paradise laughing, singing, and free of pain. Alfredo is survived by sons Fernando, Miguel, Joe and Gerardo; daughters Bernadette, Martha, and Lucia. He leaves behind 22 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, as well as 5 siblings. Alfredo's family would like to thank everyone who took extra good care of him in his final days, as well as those who have taken the time to offer condolences, prayers, and support in this difficult time.
