Obituary for Sheila G. Mohs It is with heartfelt sadness that the family of Sheila G. Mohs announces her passing on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at the age of 79. She was blessed to pass away exactly as she had hoped to ... in her sleep, at home. Her family is thankful that her passing was so peaceful. Sheila Mary Gardner was born on October 6, 1941 in Philadelphia, PA to Joseph and Elva Gardner. She was raised in Washington, D.C. and loved sharing stories of her childhood with family and friends. She was deeply faithful and proud of her parochial school education. She graduated from Georgetown Visitation Preparatory School in 1959 and went on to Immaculata Junior College where she studied a medical secretarial curriculum. It was in her capacity as a medical secretary at Georgetown Hospital that she met her future husband James (Jim) M. Mohs, M.D. Sheila and Jim married on September 24, 1966. The young family moved to Columbia, MO so that Jim could complete his medical residency at the University of Missouri. Sheila and Jim welcomed four children, Laura, James, Timothy, and Brian between 1967 and 1974. In 1974, the family moved to Visalia, CA. Sheila stayed extremely busy raising four children (often single-handedly with a busy physician husband on-call). She never missed an opportunity to cheer on her children in their various extra-curricular activities and support their educational progress. Sheila was especially proud that she was able to return to school and earn her Associate of Science Degree in Registered Nursing from the College of the Sequoias, graduating with that degree the same year her eldest child graduated from high school. She loved that nursing allowed her to share her empathy and compassion, as she most often worked with patients with cancer. In more recent years, Sheila faced several tragedies. She lost son Timothy to cancer at the age of 27 in 2000, her husband Jim passed away unexpectedly in 2014, and she recently lost another son James in February 2021. Through it all she maintained her faith and trust in God. She taught us all many lessons on how to live with grace through challenging times. Having two grandchildren, Mya and Michael Mohs, to love and dote on was definitely a blessing in her life and kept her looking forward. Sheila is survived by her daughter Laura Mohs of Visalia, CA, and son and daughter-in-law Brian and Hope Mohs, and grandchildren Mya and Michael Mohs, all of Chico, CA. Sheila is also survived by her brothers and their wives, Drs. Timothy and Nina Gardner of West Grove, PA, and Michael and Theresa Gardner of Boulder, CO. Sheila was preceded in death by her husband James and her sons James and Timothy and her parents. Visitation will be at Salser and Dillard Funeral Chapel on Friday, August 20 from 4:00-5:00 p.m. Rosary will follow at Salser and Dillard at 5:00 p.m. Sheila will be put to rest in a graveside service at Visalia District Cemetery on Saturday, August 21 at 9:30 a.m. Services have been entrusted to Salser & Dillard Funeral Chapel.
