May 14, 1956 - March 1, 2022
Olivia "Lieve" Mercado passed away on March 1st, 2022 at 5:13 PM in Visalia, CA surrounded by her family after battling cancer for nearly 17 years. Even up until her final moments she never gave up. She fought relentlessly and showed us what it meant to be a true warrior. Olivia, born on May 14, 1956, was one of six children born to Nicandro and Clemenica Haro. On November 3, 1979, she married Jorge Mercado with whom she would spend the next forty two years of her life. Over those forty two years, Olivia and Jorge would have two children, George and Deanna Mercado and in 2016, Olivia became a Nana to Taliyah and finally to Luke in 2017. Aside from being a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Olivia, was a daughter, sister, aunt, and a friend to many. To anybody who was lucky enough to know Olivia, they would tell you that she was a giver. She loved making sure that the people in her life were taken care of. She was known for going out of her way to provide for anyone who needed it. She was a caring and kind woman who would accept you into her life without any judgment and was forgiving of anything that may have happened in your past. She was what we all should aspire to be. If there was one word to best describe Olivia, it would be LOVING. She loved her family and friends unconditionally. There wasn't anything that she wouldn't do to make sure that anyone would not feel loved. And not only did she provide that love to her family and friends, but to all the friends that her children had and to all of the children that she helped in her career with Lindsay Unified School District while working in the special education department. Not only was Olivia known for being a loving and generous woman, but she was known for her baking. Baking was a passion of hers. Whether it was for a wedding, a birthday party or just because, you would be able to count on Olivia's goodies. Parties were always full of cupcakes, cookies, brownies, Rice Krispie treats, and chocolate covered everything... She always had a sweet treat for any occasion. She is survived by her husband, Jorge Mercado, her two children George and Deanna Mercado, her two grandchildren Taliyah and Luke Hernandez, her daughter in law, Jayleen Mercado, her father, Nicandro Haro, her siblings, Peter, Susan, Sylvia, and Ruben, and many nieces and nephews whom she cared for as though they were her own. She was preceded in death by her mother, Clemencia Haro and her oldest brother, John Haro. A viewing and Rosary will be held at Salser and Dillard Funeral Chapel in Visalia, CA on March 21, 2022. The viewing will be from 4-6 PM with the Rosary from 6-7 PM. Mass will be held for Olivia on March 22, 2022 at 9:00 AM at St. Rita's Church in Tulare, CA with the burial following the mass at 11:00 AM at the Lindsay-Strathmore Cemetery in Lindsay, CA.
