Juan Ramirez Hernandez

On Sunday, March 3, 2024, Juan Ramirez Hernandez, loving husband, and #1 dad/pops, passed away at the age of 76, peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones. He is survived by his wife Veronica Corvera Hernandez, who he call "honey," and his two daughters Vilma Corvera Hernandez and Mariza Ibeth Hernandez from Woodlake, CA. Juan was born in Progresso Texas on June 12, 1947, to the late Sabino Hernandez and Nieves Ramirez. Juan was the fourth oldest of eleven children, three brothers and seven sisters. Being born into a large family that traveled throughout the southern states to harvest seasonal crops, shaped Juan's formative years and resulted in a lifetime of hating the sight of cotton and eating pinto beans or chicken neck. As a Texas native, he always appreciated a juicy hamburger and never said no to ribs or a good steak. Juan was hoodwinked by his mother to join the Job Corps. However, Juan wasn't bothered much, he was up for the challenge. Juan moved to Washington State and became the lead chef for men fighting wildfires. He figured that with his chef role, he could help himself to as many meals as he wanted and an unlimited amount of ice cream. When his family made their way to California, Cutler was where they called home. Once Juan returned to California, he worked at a clothing factory, where he met his beloved "honey" (Veronica). She is special and Juan, being the jokester that he is, knew he had to stand out from her other admirers to get her attention. With the risk of acting out of character, he decided to not display chivalry towards Veronica and that is what got him a date with his honey. On February 22, 2024, Juan and Veronica celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary. Being a father of two girls, Juan was an active father from the start and confidently allowed his nails to be painted and had bows in his hair. He was a Little League coach for both his daughters and helped both become Little League champions. He took great pride in raising his daughters to be strong and independent. For entertainment, he and his older brother Emilio would orchestrate wrestling matches where his daughters and nephews would wrestle for the grand prize of $1.00. He was constantly present in their adult lives and continued to make them laugh with his jokes and silliness. Growing up in Juan's household was never dull, he was the first to get up and dance if a good song was playing, especially if it was "Super Freak" by Rick James. Watch out now! To support his family, Juan worked at Waterman Industries as a machinist for 39 years. During his time at Waterman, he built strong relationships with a crew of men who had similar interests as him, and who he considered his brothers. Juan's joking personality combined with the shenanigans of his friends, only fueled his ongoing love for making people laugh. You hardly saw Juan angry, unless you robbed him of the opportunity to have a free meal like a hamburger. He was a cool and collected guy who enjoyed making people laugh and loved striking up conversations with strangers. He went by several nicknames, such as Honey, Dad, pops, Tio Jonny, Juanito, The Love God (TLG), R.R.T, and if a pretty woman was around, he was known to his daughters as "Big Brother." When Juan wasn't telling a story or taking all of your money in a poker game, he was reading books on guns, nature, fossils/rocks and occasionally writing poetry. He was certainly a collector or as his family would say a hoarder of antiques, coins and fossils. We are left with fond and colorful memories of Juan, and we hope that everybody has a Juan story. Rosary will follow from 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial services will be held 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM Tuesday, March 26th, 2024 at St. Frances Cabrini, 199 N Pepper St, Woodlake. Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM Tuesday, March 26th, 2024 at Woodlake Public Cemetery, 165 N Cypress St, Woodlake. Services have been entrusted to Salser & Dillard Funeral Chapel.
