Harry Dale Johnson, II
August 12, 1946 - May 3, 2022
Harry D. Johnson II August 12, 1946 - May 3, 2022 Harry was born August 12, 1946, in Vallejo, CA. He was a graduate of Bullard High School class of 1964. He played high school football and basketball as well as ran cross-country. Known to his classmates as Chickenhawk, Harry was proud to share that he held the school's high jump record until it was broken just short of 50 years later. His education continued at Fresno City College; Southern State, Magnolia, AR; and Fresno State. Harry's hobbies and interests included sports, college football, basketball, and softball. He was an avid fan of the Raiders and the Lakers. His motto was "once a fan, always a fan!" Harry served his country in the US Army in Vietnam. He voluntarily enlisted while others were being drafted, which serves as a testament to his bravery and his love for this great nation. He is the recipient of multiple Purple Hearts, as well as Personal and Unit Citations for valor. Harry enjoyed collecting and playing with his G-Scale model trains. He owned a 1931 Model A roadster which originally belonged to his dad. Harry expressed fond memories of accompanying his father when he purchased the vehicle in 1956 to add to his collection. Harry was interested in following all world events and politics. Harry was a social person who made friends easily. Regardless of which state in the US he traveled, there was always someone he knew there and he would take the time to look them up to see what they were up to. He loved to travel and could drive across the US with the same level of familiarity and comfort that most of us only have within our local community. He had every major highway, roadway, and even remote back roads committed to memory. If you told him where you were going, he would volunteer the best shortcut to your destination. His travels included Europe, the Caribbean, the Far East, and every state in the United States. Harry enjoyed spending time with his family, and looked forward to attending holiday get-togethers and family reunions. He especially loved participating in anything involving the Rocha side of our family. He will always be remembered for the many times over the years he entered a family member's home loudly directing, "everybody out in the street for a quick game of volleyball!" After living many years in the San Francisco Bay area and in Los Angeles, Harry returned to the San Joaquin Valley to retire and be close to family following his management career in the field of construction fastening systems. Harry is survived by his wife of 43 years, Celeste, and their daughter, Jillian Johnson. He is also survived by his daughter, Kelli Larson, and her children Dylan and Paige; his daughter, Kim Ferguson, and her children Hayley and Wyatt; and his brother Mark Johnson. Harry had great love for his sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and his many nieces and nephews who have provided so much love and support to our family. We are eternally grateful and blessed.
