April 9, 1925 - April 13, 2021
Gloria Rios Alvarez, 96, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2021. She was born in Texas, but lived most of her life in Cutler, California. Gloria met the love of her life, John Lara Alvarez, in 1941 and married him on a dare. They were married for 57 years until John's death in 1998. Gloria was an excellent cook and loved preparing meals for her family and friends. Although she was not able to travel over the last few years, she absolutely loved the annual family camping trip to Pismo Beach. Gloria also loved parties and she would certainly remind you when it was time for her birthday party. She was also great at keeping up with everything going on in the family and never hesitated to give her opinion whether you wanted it or not. What a blessing she was. She will be missed so very much. Gloria was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Lara Alvarez, her father, Paulino Rios, her mother, Maria Jesus Delgado, her sisters, Ernie Pineda, Eva Coleman, Luz Rios, Teresa Morfin and Connie Vasquez, and her brother, John Hernandez. There was never any doubt that Gloria loved her family deeply. She is survived by her daughters, Kathy Chavez (Rudy) of Cutler, Diana Lombardi (Louie) of Visalia, and Sandra Sartuche (Richard) of Visalia, her grandchildren, Paul Marquez (Debbie) of Visalia, Lori Chavez Minjarez of Visalia, Peter Marquez III (Patty) of Clovis, Danette Chavez of Cutler, and Margie Ortega (Joel) of Orosi, 13 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her brother, Frank Hernandez, of Farmersville, and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 5, 2021, from 4-7 p.m. at Salser & Dillard Funeral Chapel, 127 East Caldwell Avenue, Visalia, with recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 6, 2021, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 12588 Avenue 407, Cutler, followed by internment at Smith Mountain Cemetery, 42088 Road 100, Dinuba.
