William James Chambers

William James Chambers, (a.k.a. Gramps, uncle Bill, uncle Willie) was born on August 24, 1949 in the town of New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada. In 1960 (at 11yrs old) he moved with his parents and younger sister Maureen from Canada to San Mateo California. He graduated from San Mateo high school in 1967. He then went on to St. Mary's University in San Francisco, graduating with a BA in Theology. Bill was studying to be a priest. But then his life followed a different path. With his deep religious views, Bill felt that he had to be a conscientious objector during the Vietnam war. He gave four years to work for Catholic social services. It was a turning point in his life, and his true passion of devotion to help began. He worked with several social service agencies. It's where his ability to reach out and help trouble kids became so evident. During these years, he also earned a masters in psychology. He then was called to teaching. He worked for many years for Chapman University and then onto Farmersville continuation school. It was at this school that he touched and changed so many young lives, helping them find a new path and work towards a productive life. After his retirement from Farmersville, he went on to teach for several years at Hot Springs Elementary School. Bill loved sharing his life with Londi and the dogs, family, and friends. Always ready to cook and share with family, friends and his cherished community of Pine Flat. His beloved cabin in the mountains was his masterpiece. A beautiful home, filled with his treasures and his beautifully landscaped property. Bill lived his life to the fullest with many wonderful adventures and friends along the way. It was always his goal to make sure everyone felt welcome and loved. What wonderful memories we all have. Today we celebrate this wonderful man who greatly impacted so many lives. He is with his Lord now and is at peace. Visitation will be held 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM Saturday, January 11th, 2025 at Salser & Dillard Funeral Chapel, 127 E. Caldwell Ave., Visalia. Rosary will follow from 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM as well as a Memorial service from 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM, followed by a Prayer Service from 5:00 PM - 6:00 PM.
