William Bouwman

William Bouwman passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on September 7, 2021 at the age of 76. Bill was born on February 21, 1945 in Gees, The Netherlands. Born to William and Egbertje Bouwman. The family with 6 children immigrated to Missouri, then to Bellflower, CA in 1952. Bill met Alverna Harmsen while attending Ontario Christian High School. They married on April 15, 1965 in Chino, Ca, then together had four children. Bill spent 28 years working for the State of California, ultimately retiring as a Parole Agent in 2002. He served as an elder in his church, and was also on the school board for Ontario Christian Schools. For several years, Bill enjoyed working with Back to God Hour, answering phone calls. Bill and Alverna also spent time together working with MMAP on month long projects around the United States. He had an amazing ability to talk with anyone and listen well. He always had a life lesson to share that was meant to empower and encourage. He prayed daily for family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife, Alverna, of 56 years, sons William (Michele) Bouwman of Peoria, AZ, Richard (Andrea) Bouwman of Visalia, daughter-in-law Michele Bouwman of Ontario, and son-in-law Larry Gonzalez (Brenda) of Bullhead City, AZ. Ten grandchildren Haley, Carley, Jake, Ryan, Kelsey, Justine, Kacey, John, James Bouwman, and Cody Gonzalez. Brother Hank Bouwman, sisters Anne Siegersma-VanDyk, Lena (Merlen) Vander Tuig, Yvonne (Jim) teVelde, Allie (Dick) Joustra, sisters-in-law Janie Gaalswyk-Ridgeway, Susan (Jeff) Eigenbrood, brothers-in-law Jim (RuthAnn) Harmsen, Rich (Tammy) Harmsen, Don Buma, numerous nieces, nephews, and countless relatives in The Netherlands. Bill was preceded in death by his parents William/Egbertje and Tjettje Bouwman, son David Bouwman, daughter Jenny Gonzalez, sisters Tina George, Birdie Arias, Grace Buma, brother Al Bouwman, brothers-in-law Gilbert Gaalswyk, Paul Ridgeway, Roy Siegersma, Bert VanDyk, sister-in-law Linda Bouwman, and a special family friend, Peter Brun. The viewing will be held on Thursday, September 16, 2021 from 9-11am at Salser & Dillard, Visalia, CA. The burial will be held on Saturday, September 18, 2021, at 11am, at Crestlawn, Riverside, CA. Gifts in memoriam of William Bouwman can be made to Sierra Village, Ontario Christian Schools, or Central Valley Christian Schools.
