Thomas C. Schoening

Thomas Craig Schoening was born January 16, 1957 in Nampa, Idaho to parents Henry and Gladys (Sundrud) Schoening . He came home to begin a lifetime pattern of irritating his siblings while simultaneously and energetically charming every person he met. He lived with his parents until 1982 when he moved to California, embracing it as home. Prior to 2017 retirement Tom was employed through Able Industries in Visalia. Tom was not a church goer, explaining that he found church "boring". He instead expressed his faith by whispering "thank you Jesus" for a meal or a hug that was particularly satisfying. Tom enjoyed pizza, hamburgers, Las Vegas, visiting his siblings, playing UNO, jigsaw puzzles, full-sugar soda, a cold beer and word search puzzles. He disliked overripe fruit, loosing at UNO and being teased. He was meticulously organized and enjoyed loading the dish washer the right way. His laugh was contagious and love for friends and family was permanent. He was a loyal Raiders fan, mourning their losses and forever optimistic about the next game. Tom was a model of an individual who lived life to the fullest. He took the talents and skills he was given and used them fully and completely, setting an example for others whose talents might be greater but whose motivation is less. Tom is survived by siblings David Schoening (Chris) of Olympia, Washington, and Peggy Perry of Stillwater, Minnesota, nieces Laura Howrey, Kendra Riemermann, Leslie Stoy, and nephew Ben Perry. His California family includes Christine and Ruben Sandoval, Bruce Benedict, Michael Malloy, Lupe Alina, Don Denny, and Tommy May. He was proceeded in death by his parents and his nephew Nathan Schoening. Tom died of complications of Covid 19 on December 21st, 2020. Jupiter and Saturn aligned that night to create the rare Christmas Star. It shone brightly when he left us, creating a path for Him to follow toward his God, his parents, and his beloved Uncle Harry. Because of the dangers of Covid 19 there will be no service. Honor Tom through kindness to one another and loyalty to his beloved Raiders.
