Susan Jeanne Hoffman

With profound sadness we announce the passing of Susan Jeanne Hoffman, our loving and devoted mother and friend to all whose lives she touched, on July 1, 2023 at the age of 64. She was born in Tulare, California to Donald A. and R. Ione Hoffman on April 16, 1959. Susan graduated from Tulare Union High School in 1977. She completed her bachelor's in Physical Science with an option in Hydrology at Chico State University in 1985. After college she moved to Bakersfield, where she worked for Texaco in the field as an environmental engineering assistant for several years. She moved to Visalia, closer to home, and spent the years when her children were young substitute teaching. Sue obtained her paralegal degree at College of the Sequoias in 2005. For the last 18 years, she worked as a paralegal, specializing mostly in estate administration. She was involved in leadership for the Sequoia Paralegal Association for several years. Sue always considered herself a scientist at heart. Camping, hiking, Sci-Fi/fantasy, and gardening were some of Susan's favorite pastimes. She was a follower of Jesus Christ throughout her life. Sue was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her children, to whom she offered endless love and support, and embraced every moment with them. She loved and took pleasure in going on family trips with them. Those who knew her will remember her warmth, kindness, intelligence, generosity, hard work, and conviction. We will all miss Sue's love and adventuresome spirit. Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Ione Hoffman of Tulare; brother, Donald A. Hoffman Jr. of Tulare; her first husband, James Boyle; brother-in-law Hank Highman of San Luis Obispo; brother-in-law Tony Fernandes of Grover Beach; and her "bonus" daughter, daughter-in-law Molly Lovelady of Visalia. She is survived by her children, Alisha Corbitt of Visalia and Christian Hoffman of Moreno Valley; sisters Mary Katherine Highman of San Luis Obispo, Kathleen Fernandes of Grover Beach, and Patricia (Michael) Ackley of Visalia; sister-in-law Robin Hoffman of Streetsboro, OH; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. She will be greatly missed by those she impacted throughout her life, from family and friends to those she worked with. Please join us for the Celebration of Life service on July 26, 2023 at 10:30 AM at Christ Lutheran Church, 3830 W. Tulare Ave. in Visalia. Burial services will be private for immediate family. Donations in Susan's honor may be made to the Sequoia Riverlands Trust or the Sierra Club. Services have been entrusted to Salser & Dillard Funeral Chapel.
