Shirley Vernice Woods

On Monday, February 17, 2025, Shirley Woods, or "Nana" as her Grand children and Great Grand children called her, passed away at the age of 80 years old, in Visalia, CA. She was born, Shirley Vernice Shannon, in Hanford, CA in 1945, where she lived until the age of 13 when her family moved to Visalia, CA. During her Senior Year at High School, her family moved again to San Jose, CA. When she was 22, she moved back to Tulare County to raise her 3 daughters. She loved working with children, she worked at a day care for several years, then when her second daughter passed away suddenly in 1994, she decided to go to work for the Office of Education working with children with Special Needs. She retired in 2011 to help take care of her grandchildren. Shirley loved to crochet and sew. She loved to make crochet animals for everyone, and she would even make them to sell to other people. She made many quilts for her children and grandchildren. Her favorite things to crochet were blankets and Monkeys. She also loved to go Yard Selling where she would find many "treasures". In April of 2000, she married the love of her life Neil Douglas Woods. Unfortunately, they were only able to spend 13 years together, when Neil succumbed to lung cancer and their life together was cut short. But through their union, she was blessed with his two daughters, Eva and Cheryl, whom she loved as her own. Shirley is survived by her daughters, Sheila Oaks, husband Ron Oaks, Tanya Choate, Eva Holdbrooks husband Tim Wilson and Cheryl Moore, her sister in law Marilyn Shannon, her grandchildren Cameron Andrade, wife Mariah, Kayla Dupuis, husband Stephen, Levi Oaks, Wendi Oaks, Kasey Sousa, husband Michael, Jessy Woods, wife Tifani, Daniel Holdbrooks, JD Holdbrooks, Gregory Moreno, Al Zetzer, Monique Miller, Leah Millender, 16 Great Grandchildren, Jaxson, Logan, Johnny, Clayton, Ellie, Brydan, Dallas, Wyatt, James, Harley, Gabe, Makayla, Harper, Tommy, Rylee, Kara, She had several nieces and nephews. She gave her life to the Lord and was baptized by the late Pastor Jim Wiley in September of 2016. She has joined her husband Neil Woods, her daughter Wendy Choate, her brother Sidney "Butch" Shannon, her sister Eddie "Charlene" Choate, Her mom Eddie "Mae" Shannon, and her Father Buster Shannon in Heaven. She Loved deeply and was loved by all who knew her, she will be dearly missed. Viewing will be held at Salser and Dillard Funeral Chapel, 127 E. Caldwell Ave., Visalia, California on Friday, March 14, 2025 from 9 AM-1 PM. Graveside services at Exeter District Cemetery on Friday, March 14, 2025 at 2 PM. Celebration of Life on Saturday March 15, 2025 starting at 11 AM at Echo Church 311 W. Center Ave. Visalia, CA 93291. Services have been entrusted to Salser & Dillard Funeral Chapel.
