Shirley Mitchell

Shirley Mitchell, passed away at the age of 72, on March 17th 2021. She passed away in her home in Visalia California. These were busy times for her. She was taking care of bookkeeping and taxes for numerous people. This was not just work, but something she loved doing. She was helping with the preparations for her father's funeral that was coming on March 20th. She was helping friends and family as was her passion in life to do. Shirley was born in Berlin Germany to her parents Henry and Hildegard Mitchell. Her father was in the army during WWII where he met, and fell in love with, her mother Hildegard. The three of them traveled back to California shortly thereafter. In just a few short years Shirley became big sister to Henry Jr (Sonny), followed by Harry. Shirley graduated from Redwood High School in Visalia California. It should be noted she was an advisor for the Key Club and the Lions Club at Redwood High School when she passed. A true example of her great desire to give back to her community and help youth in their achievements. Shirley met, and married, her first husband Charles (Chuck) Watson during the time he was working for her father. Over many years of marriage they were blessed with three children. First was Charles (Chuckie), then Jason, then finally her only daughter Christy. Later in life, she decided to go back to college, at College of the Sequoias in Visalia California, to get her degree in Accounting. She wanted to pursue her passion for accounting and bookkeeping. During this time at College of the Sequoias she met Fred Danner, her second husband. In the coming years, after Fred Danner's passing, she was blessed with three grandchildren. First came Shiodi, Christy's daughter. Next came Alexis then Hayden, Jason and wife Trica's children. Shirley had a great love of playing board and card games. The board game she played growing up was a game called Aggravation. The family played on a handmade board. She eventually found an artisan that handmade these boards. She loved giving them as gifts to every family member that wanted one so they all could enjoy her love of Aggravation. She also particularly enjoyed playing Skip-Bo with family and friends while vacationing in Pismo California. She played Bunco with friends in Visalia. In recent days she greatly enjoyed playing games with, her son Chuck and wife Chealyn's grandson, Kaiden who is 8 years old. Shirley was a board member of the Good News Center in Visalia California. She lived Mathew Chapter 25. She was always there for the poor. At St. Mary's in Visalia California she was an officer and member of the Altar and Rosary Society. For many years Shirley has been a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She recently was an officer of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas "Court Little Flower #1003". She loved attending the Court's tea events. She loved being involved with the Junior Catholic Daughters. It was very important to her that these young members succeed. Shirley was a member of the Catholic Women's Guild. She enjoyed the Dinner Circle and trying different restaurants with the members. She enjoyed life with friends, family and participating in her favorite endeavors to the end. Services will be held 11am Wednesday April 7th 2021 at Salser & Dillard Funeral Chapel, 127 E Caldwell Ave, Visalia California.
