Dr. Roger Allan Webster

Roger was born September 7, 1932 in Long Beach, California. He attended Fresno High School in Fresno, California and graduated in 1950. Roger received a football and track scholarship from the University of Oregon from 1950-1052. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served as a corpsman during the Korean War. It was while in the Navy that he met and married his wife and life-ling partner of 60+ years, Carolyn J. Estes. Together they had two sons and one adopted daughter. When Roger's Naval commitment had been fulfilled, he attended Fresno State and was accepted into Dental School at the University of Maryland in Baltimore, Maryland, where he graduated with honors in 1963. He entered private practice in Redwood City, California for several years. Roger re-enlisted in the Navy in 1968, and was sent to Vietnam where he eventually ended up as Assistant Dental Officer on Admiral Elmo Zumwalt's staff in Saigon. After his tour in Vietnam, he attended Naval Graduate School in Bethesda, Maryland where he graduated after two years with a Specialty Degree in Endodontics along with a Masters Degree from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. Roger's Naval career included sea-duty on the U.S.S. Shenandoah, (AD-26), in the Mediterranean, various dental assignments as an Endodontist, including three years in the Philippines. He was then selected for administration positions, which included Commanding Officer of Long Beach, California and Norfolk, Virginia where he also served as Atlantic's Fleet Dental Officer. Roger's last assignment was Head of Professional Branch at Bureau of Medicine and Surgery in Washington, D.C. Roger retired in 1990 with the rank of Captain after 32 years of service in the U.S. Navy. Roger and his wife, Carolyn, then settled in Visalia, California where he practiced Endodontics until he retired in 2007. During this time, he also served as Central Valley Blue and Gold Officer for the U.S. Naval academy. Roger leaves behind his loving and devoted wife of 74 years, Carolyn; his children, Scott A. Webster (Darlynn) and Dianne O'Brien. He is also survived by six grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his son, Randall W. Webster.
