Refugio Silva Castillo

In loving memory of our father, grandfather, great grandfather, and great-great grandfather Refugio "Cuco" Castillo was born on July 4th 1933, in Laredo Tx to the late Benita Silva Castillo and Jose Castillo. He departed this life on Wednesday September 12th 2018 at Kaweah Delta Hospital in Visalia, CA. Refugio is preceded in death by his lovely wife Elvira Lopez Castillo, son Andres "Cuate" Castillo, daughter Irma Castillo and his 6 brothers and 1 sister. Refugio is survived by his daughters Andrea "Cuata" Castillo and Alma Gonzalez. And sons Refugio Castillo Jr and Ivan Castillo. Also by his brother Jose Manuel Castillo (wife Socorro). Twenty-one grandkids, nineteen great grandkids and one great great grandkid. Refugio was born in Laredo, Texas in 1933, he passed at the age of 85. His parents Benita and Jose Castillo were also born and raised in Laredo Texas. He met the love of his life in Laredo at the age of 21. Elvira Lopez Castillo was 18 when she met her soul mate Refugio. From that moment they became inseparable. On October 29, 1954 they were married. From a young age Refugio was a hard worker. Working in agriculture and road maintenance he learned many skills and trades. In 1972 he packed up his family and belongings and headed west. Woodlake California became his home. With the abundance of agriculture in the valley, Refugio and Elvira were able to set their roots and raise their family. Refugio loved spending time outdoors, enjoyed sitting around and catching up with family about life, he was a fan of boxing and enjoyed watching the fights from the comfort of his chair. He was a proud dad, and grandpa and loved to talk about his grandkids. He was a caring, loving, giving, and a respectful man. His sense of humor will be greatly missed. In the latter years of his life he became a devout Christian and attended church on a regular basis. He looked forward to family gatherings, and also enjoyed the delicious foods. Refugio left a print on everyone's life, those who met him would remember him. And those who loved him will keep him alive in memory and in heart. Refugio will be deeply missed by his friends, family and all who knew him. Visitation will be held at 5 PM until 8 PM on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at Salser and Dillard Funeral Chapel. A funeral will be held at 9:45 AM until 11 AM on Friday, September 28, 2018 at Apostolic Assembly Church in Woodlake, followed by interment at Woodlake District Cemetery.
