Nicandro Haro

Nicandro Haro passed away on May 19, 2022 in Visalia CA. surrounded by his family. Nicandro was born in Contitlan, Juchipila, Zacatecas, Mexico on March 15, 1926 to Leocadio and Soledad Haro, they had 7 children, Nicandro Haro, Sarah Ibarra, Glafira Nunez, Refugio Haro, Mary Diaz, Clemencia Rodriquez, Art Haro and Helen Santoyo. On January 12, 1950, Nicandro married Clemencia Reynoso in the town of Exeter CA, they were married for 49 and a half years. They had six children, John Haro, Peter Haro, Olivia Mercado, Susan Ballesteros, Sylvia Salazar and Ruben Haro. Nicandro Haro, known to many as "Cano", Nick, Dad, Grampa, Wello Wello, Papa, Grampa-Cano, and "Grandpa" to many friends that knew the family. He was a man who helped his family and friends. Dad would donate monthly to St. Jude Cancer Research Foundation and would regularly send half of his winnings from the casino. Nicandro began his journey across the Mexican Border as a very young man at the age of 15. His first residence was in Los Angles CA and first job was working at a meat plant with other family members. In the late 1940's he moved to Exeter CA and worked at Newman Ranch. In 1958, Nicandro and Clemencia bought a home in Lindsay, CA. where they raised their family. He traveled throughout the San Joaquin Valley picking the crops of the season. As a family, at the end of the school year, we would load up the station wagon and head up north to pick fruit and the final stop would be Fresno County to pick grapes. Dad had a great sense of direction because we never got lost going to different labor camps or ranches. With only a third grade education, Dad was exceptional in mathematics and reading. In the mid 1960's he started his business career managing his Bars and Gaming card rooms throughout Tulare County. We all enjoyed our many trips with him to the casinos in California and Nevada. Dad enjoyed taking the family fishing and swimming at Slick Rock, McKays Point, and Cutler Park. He enjoyed going to the Riverview Diner in Three Rivers to enjoy a great burger while listening to the sounds and smell of the river. It brought back great memories for him. Dad was in exceptional health. He kept himself healthy by taking various vitamins and a "shot" of Numero Uno Sangria. Dad stayed active by going on daily walks in the neighborhood and doing his 1000 steps twice a day on his 1970's stair climber. He loved reading, watching old western movies and the classics. He loved listening to music by Jose Alfredo Jimenez and Vicente Fernandez. Dad had a love for gardening, planting various types of chiles, tomatoes and zucchini. He also had a love for fruit and was never without the fruit of the season because family and friends would always stop by with a bag of fruit. Oh, and his beloved Dodgers (he knew their names, stats and batting order) and made sure to never miss a game. Nicandro is survived by his children, Peter Haro, Susan Ballesteros, Sylvia Salazar, Ruben Haro, 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Clemencia Haro, his oldest son John Haro and his oldest daughter Olivia Mercado. Memorial services will be held 10:00 AM Friday, June 10th, 2022 at Salser & Dillard Funeral Chapel, 127 E. Caldwell Ave., Visalia. Services have been entrusted to Salser & Dillard Funeral Chapel.
