Montel Shanon Harris

MONTEL SHANON HARRIS Montel Shanon Harris was born to Jerome Harris and Doris Harris on May 26, 1967, in Detroit, Michigan. Montel was the only child born to his parents. Being the only child, Montel received an abundance of love from extended family. Both of Montel's Grandmother's loved him very much. His Maternal Grandmother Leler Martin and his Paternal Grandmother Evangelina Chatman assisted Montel's parents in raising spiritually in the church and in the World. Montel's Dad Jerome always called him "Monty." The family now calls him Monty as well. Montel often looked to his family support system for guidance and advice. It didn't mean he always took it though. After relocating to California, Montel met his soon to be wife Tonya E. Brown in 1993. Montel unexpectedly lost his mother, Doris, July 13, 1996. Even though they didn't hit it off initially, he soon won Tonya's heart and they were married on September 28, 1996. Montel has always had a driven spirit. After High School he entered into the United States of America Marine Corps. After Montel's military tour ended in 1991, he returned home to Detroit, Michigan, to further his education at Wayne Community College. In 1992, Montel received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Occupational Therapy; which would lead to an internship in California. After completion of his internship, Montel returned to Detroit, Michigan and within 30 days he received a full-time job opportunity with Kaweah Delta Health Care. Montel was very passionate about Health and his field of Occupational Therapy. He was able to spread his knowledge and infectious smile to numerous facilities where he worked, such as: Linwood Meadows, Westgate Gardens and Redwood Springs. Montel was an extrovert; an approachable man. Family and friends always said, "He had the gift of gab," and that Montel never met a stranger. Montel could and would strike up a conversation with anyone. That is one of the reasons why he was such a wonderful Coach. He loved working with Youth in anyway he could, he wanted to make a difference in their lives. Montel loved being outdoors and participating in outdoor activities. From baseball to football, or walking on the beach to hiking Three Rivers, anything outdoors he was ready. He supported his children with all of their extracurricular activities, yelling from the stands or coaching them from the sidelines; their Dad was there. Let us not forget what a Fanatic he was over all the Detroit Profession Ball Clubs: Lions, Pistons, Red Wings and the Tigers. He supports his city and state to the maximum! Montel made time to visit home, Detroit, to see his Dad and family as often as he could. He loved to travel and along the way hit a few wine vineyards if he could. The Lord called Montel home on Tuesday, January 28, 2020. He is preceded in death by his mother Doris Carvette. Montel has left to cherish his memory, his wife, Tonya E. Harris (Wife), Jerome Harris (Father), Montel Harris (Son), Jordan Harris (Son), Yasmine Villarreal Harris (Daughter) and Daniella Martinho Brewer (Daughter).
