Michael Darrel Yandell

NAME: Mike Yandell AGE: 38 RESIDENT OF: Visalia DATE OF DEATH: September 24, 2016 OCCUPATION: Deputy Sheriff Michael Darrel Yandell was born in Visalia on April 4th 1978, and entered into the presence of the Lord on September 24th, 2016. Mike is survived by his wife Melissa, his son Justin and daughter Georgia, parents Darrel and Nancy, brother Steve and wife Nicole, nephews Keaton and Travis and niece Cameron, sister Jenny and husband Chris, as well as many other loving family members, close friends, and brothers of the badge. For 16 years, Mike was a proud employee of the Tulare County Deputy Sheriff’s Department. He started his career as a deputy in the main jail, moved to headquarters patrol, Gang Violence Suppression Unit, and Sheriff’s Tactical Enforcement Personnel (STEP). He was promoted to sergeant in 2012, assigned to the Pixley substation, and most recently oversaw the ag crimes unit. In addition to his assigned duties, Mike was a long-time member of the Search and Rescue team and president of the Deputy Sheriff’s Association. In his capacity at the DSA, Mike championed many causes, ranging from organizing fundraisers benefitting fallen deputies to participating in numerous community events and fighting for the rights of the members of the Deputy Sheriff’s Office. He was instrumental in bringing water to East Porterville residents, and worked tirelessly to ensure the families of fallen deputies were cared for. Everyone who knew Mike can testify to his huge heart, passion for his job, and love of family and God. Rosary will be Prayed at 6:00 pm on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, September 30, 2016 at 11:30 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to account #1034754 at Valley Business Bank to benefit Mike’s children.
