Mary Jane Cox

Mary Jane Cox, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend, passed away gently at the age of 87. All who knew Mary remember her devotion to our Lord Jesus Christ, kind nature, fun sense of humor, and her love of her family. Mary was born February 11, 1931, in Tulare and lived there all of her life. In her youth, Mary loved to dance and grew up going to Portuguese dances with her sister, and parents. She continued her love of dancing throughout her life. In her early years of marriage, Mary enjoyed her working hours as Dr. Guido's receptionist. Mary loved to attend her grandson's baseball and football games. Her love of baseball and football carried on as an avid San Francisco Giants and San Francisco 49er fan. Mary and her husband enjoyed the hobby of racing homing pigeons which she continued on with their winning ways after the loss of her husband, in 1984. Mary was very involved with St. Mary's Catholic Church. She attended daily mass, served as a Eucharistic minister at mass as well as to the shut-ins, ironed the linens and was always willing to help with various duties. After the death of her husband, Mary became a Pink Lady with Kaweah Delta Hospital where her love of serving others gave her great joy. She also belonged to the U.P.P.E.C. Council #64 and Catholic Daughters. Our family deeply appreciates Twin Oaks Assisted Living in Tulare and gives a special thank you, too, for the loving care from the staff over the past 6 years. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Ezekiel and Mercedes Rocha, her sisters Judy Liddi and Mercedes Rocha, her husband and the love of her life, Douglas Cox Jr., and her son Jeff Cox. Mary is survived by her son, Douglas Cox III of Tulare, and her daughter, Pamela Cox of Visalia, her grandsons, Tyler Cox of Hawaii, Josh Cox and his wife Sabrina of Tulare, Joey Cox of Tulare, her granddaughter, Brandi Rapley of Visalia and her great grandson, Jayden. Visitation will be Thursday, November 29, 2018 at 4:00 PM with a Rosary beginning at 6:00 PM at Salser & Dillard Funeral Chapel. Mass will be Celebrated Friday, November 30, 2018 at 9:00 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial will follow at the Visalia District Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to the St. Anthony's Retreat Center, Scholarship Fund, PO Box 249, Three Rivers, CA 93271.
