Luis Sepulveda

It is with great sadness and sorrow that we announce the passing of Luis Sepulveda on July 9, 2026. In mid-February, he was diagnosed with a brain tumor and underwent a successful surgery. While undergoing chemotherapy and radiation, Luis suffered a heart attack. During his recovery, a second setback came from internal bleeding triggered by blood thinners. His blood pressure dropped, causing his heart to stop, and doctors were unable to revive him. Luis was born in Fresno and raised in Sanger, California. He was a proud Jefferson Tiger and Sanger Apache. After graduating in 1976, he attended Fresno State University, where he served as Student Body President from 1980 to 1981, encouraging his fellow students to become involved on campus. It was there, in the spring of 1981, that he met his future wife, Sonia Garcia. They married in 1987, moved to Visalia, bought a home, and built their careers and family together. Luis dedicated 30 years of service to the State of California, ending his career with the Board of Equalization, before retiring in 2021. Luis loved talking to people, serving his community, and spending time with family and friends. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he was among the first to step forward, helping with vaccine efforts and food distribution throughout the Central Valley. He served on the Citizens Advisory Committee for the City of Visalia, as well as the Tulare County Redistricting Commission in 2021. Luis also dedicated his time to the Tulare County Grand Jury from 2023 to 2025, and spent the last 15 years assisting the Tulare County Elections Office at the polls. That same spirit carried into his personal life. Luis rarely missed a season working with the Mt. Whitney football chain gang and had a genuine passion for photography, capturing countless special moments along the way. Above all, Luis's greatest joy was watching his son grow into an amazing young man. He was the youngest child of Mary and Jesus Sepulveda and was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, and uncle. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Sepulveda; his father, Jesus Sepulveda; his sister, Valentina Sepulveda; and his brother, Simon Sepulveda. Luis is survived by his beloved wife, Sonia Sepulveda; his son, Daniel Sepulveda; his sisters, Delma Cardenas and Isabel Loya; his brothers, Hector Hernandez, Emilio Hernandez (Elizabeth), and Jesus Sepulveda (Becky); along with many extended family members, dear friends, and all whose lives were touched by his kindness, generosity, and humor. A mass celebrating Luis's life will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2026 at 11:00 AM at St. Anthony's Retreat, 43816 Sierra Drive, Three Rivers, CA 93271. A reception will follow immediately after the service at the same location. All who knew and loved Luis are warmly invited to attend. Services have been entrusted to Salser & Dillard Funeral Chapel.
