Keely Ann Thompson

Keely Ann Thompson, age 17, beloved daughter, sister, girlfriend, friend, and advocate, passed away following complications from epilepsy. Although her life was far too short, the impact she made on the people around her will last a lifetime. Keely was a young woman with an extraordinary heart. She loved her family deeply and cherished the time she spent traveling and taking family trips with her mom, dad, and two brothers. She especially loved talking with her parents-and she could certainly talk their ears off! Whether she was sharing a story, telling them about her day, checking in on them, or simply enjoying their company, Keely loved having conversations with the people she loved most. She was an amazing daughter who always made sure her family was okay. When her parents and brothers came home, Keely would check in on everyone, making sure they were doing well. She had a remarkable ability to notice when someone needed a listening ear, and she was always willing to be there. She cared deeply about people and regularly checked in on her peers, family members, and anyone she could tell might need someone to talk to. Keely was blessed to share a beautiful, loving relationship with her long-term boyfriend, Jonathon Smalls. Jonathon was a very special part of Keely's life and became a beloved part of the family. One of their favorite traditions was FaceTiming with her family every night. Their relationship was one where they truly balanced each other, bringing out the best in one another through love, patience, laughter, and companionship. Keely and Jonathon had begun making lifelong plans together and looking toward a future they were excited to share. Their love was young, but it was genuine, meaningful, and deeply cherished. Jonathon will forever hold a special place in Keely's story and in the hearts of her family. Keely was also a passionate advocate for others. A student at San Pedro High School, she dedicated herself to disability awareness and making sure everyone had an opportunity to be heard and understood. She created posters for disability awareness months and used her voice and creativity to educate others and promote inclusion. She believed that every person deserved to be seen, respected, heard, and included. Keely loved wheelchair basketball and treasured being part of a community where she could share her passion with others. She loved people, and her kindness extended far beyond her immediate family and friends. Born with Spina Bifida, Keely faced challenges that would have overwhelmed many people. She endured 53 surgeries throughout her seventeen years, yet she continued to face each challenge with incredible tenacity and determination. Time and time again, she came through those experiences smiling, ready to take on the world. Her strength was not simply in what she endured, but in the joy, compassion, humor, and courage she continued to share with others. Keely loved movies, and one of her favorites was Lilo & Stitch. The message of Ohana held a special place in her heart: "Ohana means family. Family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten." Those words could not be more fitting for Keely. She lived that message. She believed in checking on people, listening to them, including them, and making sure they knew they mattered. She never wanted anyone to feel forgotten or left behind. Keely will be remembered for her tenacity, compassion, beautiful smile, infectious personality, ability to talk your ears off, and heart of gold. She showed those around her that strength is not measured by the obstacles we face, but by the love and courage with which we face them. To her parents, she was the best daughter they could have ever asked for. To her brothers, she was a beloved sister and an irreplaceable part of their family. To Jonathon, she was a cherished girlfriend and the person with whom she had begun dreaming about a future. To her friends and classmates, she was someone who cared deeply and made them feel heard. To everyone fortunate enough to know her, Keely was a reminder of the difference one person can make simply by choosing to care. Keely Ann Thompson is survived by her loving father, her loving mother, and her two brothers, who will carry her memory and her love with them always. She is also survived by Jonathon Smalls and the many friends, classmates, extended family members, and loved ones whose lives she touched. Though her time with us was much too short, Keely's voice, advocacy, kindness, laughter, love, and spirit will continue through everyone whose life she touched. Her legacy will live on in the people she encouraged, the causes she championed, the conversations she shared, the family she loved so deeply, and the countless hearts she made brighter. Keely may no longer be with us, but she will never be left behind or forgotten. She will forever be a part of our Ohana. A celebration of Keely's life will be held at Pentecostal Lighthouse, Visalia, California on August 29, 2026 at 1:00 PM. Family, friends, classmates, and all whose lives were touched by Keely are welcome to join us as we remember, honor, and celebrate the remarkable young woman she was.
