Jonnie Roy Herring

Johnnie was born to Ace and Flossie Herring on September 16, 1930. He passed away November 28, 2022. Johnnie had five sisters; Jewel McFarland, Pearl Smith, Opal Owsley, Anna Manning, Della Ruell, and one brother Jack Herring. His family moved to California when he was a young boy. They lived in many towns before finally settling in Visalia, CA. Johnnie joined the Navy when he was a young man, and served in the Korean War. When he was discharged from the Navy, he married Betty Hunter and had three children, Roy, Mark, and Janet, as well as two children from Betty's previous marriage, Gary and Trudy Brown. Johnnie worked for Gong's Market as a Produce Manager for 25 years before retiring. After retiring Johnnie eventually moved to Exeter Senior Villa in Exeter, CA. Johnnie loved Horse Racing. He went to as many races as he could. He had a great personality, and made many friends wherever he went, and was loved by everyone. He loved when people came by just to sit and talk. As he got older, he enjoyed watching his favorite football team, the Seattle Seahawks, and watching old Western movies. He enjoyed listening to Country Music on his radio. His favorite singers were Patsy Cline and Loretta Lynn, among others. Johnnie is survived by his loving daughter Janet Herring, his two step children Gary and Trudy Brown, his grandchildren; John Acevedo, Jonathan Herring, and Jamie Fleming, who loved him dearly. He is also survived by his loving sister Della Ruell and many nieces and nephews that also loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by Betty, his sons Roy and Mark, his grandson Adam, his sisters Jewel, Pearl, Opal, Anna, and brother Jack. Visitation will be held 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM Friday, January 6th, 2023 at Salser & Dillard Funeral Chapel, 127 E. Caldwell Ave., Visalia. Prayer Service will be held 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM Friday, January 6th, 2023 at Salser & Dillard Funeral Chapel, 127 E. Caldwell Ave., Visalia. Graveside services will be held 12:00 PM Friday, January 6th, 2023 at Visalia District Cemetery, 1300 W Goshen Ave, Visalia. Services have been entrusted to Salser & Dillard Funeral Chapel.
