John William Van Dyk

John W. Van Dyk - March 26, 1953 - February 9, 2020 John William Van Dyk, 66, of Hanford, CA passed away on February 9, 2020. John was born on March 26, 1953 to Bert and Eva Van Dyk in Long Beach, California. When he was four years old his family moved to Chino, CA. Growing up, John enjoyed showing his heifers in 4-H and raising calves. He graduated from Norco High School and attended Chino Valley Reformed Church where he met his future wife Betty Fikse. They were married on June 20, 1975. After one year of marriage they purchased their first herd of cows and lived on dairies in Corona and Redlands. During this time, they were blessed with three children John Jr., Jodi and Aaron. It was very important to John to instill in his children a strong work ethic and a desire to follow Jesus. In 1983, John moved his family to the Central Valley where they enjoyed dairy life and fun vacations together. Our summer vacations to Lake Tulloch were a yearly trip with friends where John enjoyed teaching the kids to water ski. He also enjoyed fishing with his Dad. After 40+ years of milking cows and the children having become established on their own they sold the home dairy. For the next five years, John and Betty enjoyed being semi-retired. They took several trips to Texas, family vacations to Huntington Beach and the Colorado River. Traveling to Ireland and Scotland on a farm tour with friends was a real highlight for him. He also loved taking trips in their motorhome and enjoyed watching their ten grandchildren play sports and attend their school functions. John went to his heavenly home and was reunited with his parents Bert and Eva Van Dyk, his sister Joann Idsinga, brother-in-law Jim Idsinga and father and mother-in-law Evert and Johanna Fikse. John is survived by his wife of 44 years Betty, son John (Kelly) Van Dyk of Sunray, TX and their children Kamber, Lauren, Tanner and Mason; daughter Jodi (Henry) Veenendaal of Hanford, CA and their children Henry and Katie; and son Aaron ( Amy) Van Dyk of Tulare, CA and their children Chloe, Seth, Emma and Tess. He is also survived by his sister Bernell (Joe) Buckley, sister Carolyn (Marty) De Jager, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Bob and Joanne Schoep, Eleanor Spencer, Al and Grace Fikse and Jerry and Linda De Kiewiet, along with several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. Visitation will be held Monday, February 17, 2020, 5:00-6:30pm at Salser & Dillard Funeral Chapel. A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, February 18, 2020, 11:00am at Visalia Christian Reformed Church, 1030 S. Linwood, Visalia.
