Jean Wesley Morcom

Jean W. Morcom Jan. 8th, 1925- Dec. 9th, 2013 Jean W. Morcom was born January 8th, 1925 in Caldwell Idaho. He was the only son of Helen and Herb Morcom. Jean was the husband of Joyce Morcom and the proud father of Bill Weaver, Connie L. Goins (husband Bob Goins), and Jim Morcom (wife Stacy Morcom). He had eight grandchildren: Gina Janke (husband Ben Janke), Kimi Weaver, Jessica Morcom, Alex Morcom, Willie Weaver, Aiden Weaver, Jill Duncan (husband Gary Duncan), and Tamara Gallie. He also had four great grandchildren: Jaycee Janke, Jamison Janke, Carrie Clark, and Kristen Beechinor. And, he had one great great grandchild, Wade Beechinor. Jean attended grade school in Pearl, Idaho in a one room school house, and later attended Eagle High School. His early years were spent helping run his parents ranch in Pearl, Idaho. Later, they purchased the Hole in the Ground Ranch on the Owyhee River in Oregon. In 1948 Jean married Joyce McGlochlin Weaver and acquired a very busy one and a half year old boy, Bill Weaver. Eventually, the couple bought the Hole in the Ground Ranch from Jean’s parents. In 1962, they also acquired Mud Flat Ranch and Harper Ranch where Jim and Connie attended grade school as well as high school. Bill attended Vale high school along with the couple’s befriended son, Duane Bronson. In later years, the family also came to obtain Birch Creek Ranch. In 1972, Jean and Joyce sold all of the ranches they had come to possess over the years, packed up their family and possessions and moved to Visalia, California. It was here that they began, and still operate, a citrus ranch in Ivanhoe. While living in Oregon, Jean was actively involved with the Arock school board. Upon moving to California, he became an active member on the Board of Directors for the Ivanhoe Citrus Association, and what later became the Exeter-Ivanhoe Citrus Association. He enjoyed working with Redwood FFA, especially on their field trips and the yearly venture to the fair. Besides all of this, he was also a dedicated member of the Backcountry Horsemen, and enjoyed many outings they sponsored over the years. His hand tied horse halters were prized at all the raffle events for this group. In 1994, Jean and Joyce semi-retired, leasing their citrus ranch to their youngest son Jim Morcom and his wife Stacy. This semi-retirement freed the couple to spend their later years cherishing time with close friends and family, as in their annual outing to the National Finals Rodeo for the past twenty years with good friends Ken and Shirley Bridges. Jean loved his family with a deep passion. Not only did he adore his wife and children, but also his grandchildren, whom he never passed up an opportunity to spend time with. He went to be with the Lord on December 8th, 2013. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered. A burial service will be held at the Woodlake Cemetery on Monday, December 16th at 10 a.m., followed by a Celebration of Life service at Parkside Chapel church in Visalia at 12 noon.
