Janet Loyse Mishler

Janet Loyse Mishler of Visalia California died peacefully in her sleep on September 30, 2025. Janet lived a rich and full life in her 71 years. Born in Germany, she was adopted by Verna and Geneva McMillan within four months of her birth. The McMillan family moved from Germany to El Paso, Texas on her first birthday. The move was precipitated by her father's status with the United States Army where he served at Fort Bliss. As with many military families, they later moved to the next duty station, Fort Ord near Monterey, California. When Mr. McMillan retired from the Army, the family moved to Atascadero, California. By now Janet was in elementary school where she attended through her sophomore year of high school. The family relocated again to Salinas and she completed her junior and senior years at North Salinas High School. To her good fortune she was able to combine the usual high school classes with cosmetology school which she completed as she graduated high school and was able to successfully pass the State of California Board of Cosmetology License exam. Looking for more exciting things, Janet moved to Riverside to attend California Baptist College (now university). One to always jump in and help with things, while in the registration line she helped out a boy, who she thought was strange. But alas after a date or two she realized that this strange man was exactly who she was looking for. She and Dwayne were married on August 14, 1976. Remaining at Cal Baptist Dwayne finished his formal education to become a teacher. Moving to Visalia for a teaching job with Dwayne, she found a job fit for her at Designer Fabric where she helped several people learn to sew and make their own clothing. After many years, she felt a nudge from Dwayne and a calling from God to become more involved in the leadership of the Women's Missionary Union at their church, Woodland Drive Baptist Church. Because of her organizational and planning skills she was asked to consider accepting the position of secretary at the state level which she held for several years. While serving in the church and serving others brought the most joy to Janet, her health forced her to slow down. When COVID came along, the isolation took a major toll on Janet not being able to go out with friends, she became homebound which led to several health issues. The variety of issues came together on September 30, and she took her last breath. However, that is not the end of the story. As she took her last breath, she was united in heaven with those who she loved who died before her - her parents, her brother, Butch, her mother-in-law, Wanda Mishler, her grandparents, and a host of others. She is survived however, by her husband Dwayne, her father-in-law, Russ Mishler, and brothers-in-law Kent and Brent Mishler. Memorial services will be held 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM Saturday, October 18th, 2025 at Salser & Dillard Funeral Chapel, 127 E. Caldwell Ave., Visalia.
