Ida De Boer

Ida De Boer, 85, of Porterville, California, peacefully entered her heavenly home on July 20, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. Ida was born Yke Valkema on November 6, 1940, in Idsega, Friesland, the Netherlands, to Georg and Trijntsje (Van Dyk) Valkema. She was the fifth of ten children. In 1960, she married the love of her life, Pete De Boer, and together they began a journey that would span nearly 66 years of marriage. In 1969, Pete and Ida courageously immigrated to California with their three young children, leaving behind family and friends to build a new life in America. They were later blessed with two more sons, completing their family of five children. They eventually settled in Porterville, where they raised their family and became deeply rooted in the community. Ida was a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished Beppe, and faithful follower of Jesus Christ. She and Pete were longtime members of Tulare Community Church, where they worshiped faithfully for many years. Ida also found great joy in serving at Used Treasures Thrift Store, where her kindness and warm smile touched countless lives. Nothing brought Ida greater happiness than her family. She is survived by her beloved husband, Pete De Boer; her children, Tracie (Warren) Hettinga, Wilma (Randy) Gorzeman, George (Michaelene) De Boer, Pete De Boer Jr., and Fred (Breann) De Boer; sixteen grandchildren and their spouses; twenty-two great-grandchildren; her siblings Wybren, Trijntsje, George, and Jetze Valkema, of the Netherlands; and many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. Ida will be remembered for her unwavering faith, gentle spirit, joyful smile, Dutch accent, servant's heart, and the unconditional love she shared with everyone around her. She began her journey as Yke in a small village in Friesland and finished it as Ida and Beppe, surrounded by the family she loved and welcomed home by the Savior she faithfully followed. A celebration of Ida's life will be held at Tulare Community Church on Tuesday, July 28, at 11:00 a.m. A viewing will be held on Monday, July 27, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Salser & Dillard Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation can be made to Used Treasures, Tulare CA. Services have been entrusted to Salser & Dillard Funeral Chapel.
