Homer Davis

Homer T. Davis Insurance Claims Manager, Retired Old Car Enthusiast Homer was born on September 8, 1933, to Walter Lee & Maud Davis in Union Town, Arkansas. He was the fourth child born of eight children. He spent his first four years in Arkansas and then his family decided to move west and ultimately to California. He grew up and attended schools in the Sanger, California and graduated from Sanger High School in 1952. He joined the US Army after graduation from high school and served in the Korean War. After discharge from the Army Homer returned to the San Joaquin Valley and lived with his parents and younger siblings in Fresno while working full time at Cobbs Food Store and attending Fresno City [Junior] College where he met his wife Courtney, of 46 years. He went on to graduate from Fresno State College with a BS degree in Business Administration. He was Mason and a member of the Ponderosa Masonic Lodge in Fresno. He worked for Libby, McNeil & Libby before joining Farmers Insurance Group where he started work as a claims adjuster and advanced to Claims Manager in the Visalia Branch Claims Office. He was with Farmers for 35 years, until retirement in 1996. Homer was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Marge Schwabenland and Mary Ardohain. He is survived by his daughter, Jackie Pennington and son-in-law, Paul Jeffrey Pennington of Merced; CA and son, Stephen Ray Davis and daughter-in-law, Donna M. Post Davis of Clovis; three grandchildren, Haley Pennington, Cole Pennington, and Jenna Pennington; and the adopted kid, Russ Skadan and his wife, Suzie and their children Gary, Keith and Meg Skadan; three sisters, Betty Eaton of Exeter, CA, Annabelle Sarkisian of Fresno, CA, Diane Weber of Upland, CA, and two brothers, Raymond Davis of Henderson, North Carolina and Walter Lee Davis, Jr. of South Dakota; two sister-in-laws, Gloria Davis of Henderson, North Carolina and Kendra Davis of South Dakota. Homer was active in many organizations in Visalia while his children were growing up and attending school. He was PTA President at Veva Blunt & Linwood Elementary Schools; YMCA Indian Guides, National Little League, Boy Scouts, band and sport activities at Redwood High School and COS. Upon retirement Visalia Motorsports, Visalia Vapor Trailers and the Mixed Nuts RV Group. He was very interested and active in cars shows, cruise nights and in the restoration of old cars.
