Harold Porras

Harold Porras went to be with the Lord on Friday, August 12, 2016 in Visalia, at the age of 63. Harold was born on May 26, 1953 in Visalia, CA to Mr. and Mrs. William Porras. Harold went to school through the Visalia Unified School Distict and upon graduating went to California Fresno State University. He graduated from Fresno in 1982 with a 4.0 GPA and a degree in Social Welfare. His schooling did not stop there, but continued at the University of Santa Barbara, where he earned a Master’s degree in Organization Management and Development. Between 1984-1986 Harold served as the Associate Director at Stanislaus State University in Turlock, CA. For about 6 years Harold was a Pastor at Breakthrough Christian Faith Center in Stockton, CA. He worked in Migrant Education at Stockton Unified School District and also served as a Chief Diversity Officer at Moorhead State University in Kentucky. Harold even spent some time running his own business, Breakthrough Consulting Services. Harold was a man of many talents, but he loved playing his guitar for hours daily, and sitting down to listen to Gospel music or Jimi Hendrix. He enjoyed golf, creating art, and boxing. He was a fan of acting as well and had auditioned many times in Hollywood. He acted in two roles locally, as well through the Visalia Ice House Theater. Harold was preceded in death by his father William Porras and mother Delfina Porras; brothers, James Porras, Rudy Porras and William Porras Jr.; sister, Rebecca Porras, all of Visalia, CA. He is survived by sisters Margaret Porras Navarrete of Visalia, whom he lived with, and Eleanor Lopez of Dinuba; children Ericka Porras of Fresno, CA and Steven Porras of Kentucky; brother-in-law’s Mike Navarrete and Pete Lopez, both of Visalia and sister-in-law Roseann Porras of Visalia; nephews Michael Anthony Navarrete, Mark Dion Navarrete, Joel Navarrete, Nathan Navarrete, Peter Lopez of Sacramento and Rudy Porras of Visalia; nieces Elizabeth Saenz and Stephanie Lopez of Dinuba, Annette Le, Catherine Porras and Suzanne Jeffries all of Visalia. A viewing will be held on Thursday, August 25, 2016 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Salser and Dillard Funeral Chapel. The funeral ceremony will take place on Friday, August 26, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Salser and Dillard Funeral Chapel with the burial to follow at Visalia District Cemetery.
