Gerald F Nunes

Gerald "Jerry" Nunes, of Tulare, California passed away Thursday, April 2nd, 2026. He was born January 15, 1948, in Armona, California, to Tony Ferreira Nunes of Brazil and Mary Rocha of the Azores. In a moment both sorrowful and strangely comforting, he passed away on his late wife Dava Nunes' birthday, as if determined not to miss celebrating with her once again. Family and friends take comfort imagining them reunited, laughing, and picking up right where they left off. From his early days as a high school tough guy, Gerald carried a lifelong love of sports and competition. He rarely missed his grandchildren's baseball games and was a devoted San Francisco Giants fan, always ready to talk baseball. He built a remarkable career as a professional driver, dedicating over 30 years to Kraft Private Fleet and safely logging more than a million miles. He took immense pride in his truck, spotless, polished, decked out with chrome, and his perfectly tuned CB radio. Known for his flirtatious personality and humor, he never met a stranger. He loved sharing stories, photos, and laughter, living life with no filter and a generous heart. He never passed up a delicious meal, especially breakfast, and cherished blueberry pancakes at his favorite hometown spot, Apple Annie's. Family game nights were among his happiest moments, with card games, Yahtzee, puzzles, and laughter. Even when he was not participating, he took his best naps when family gathered and were near him. In later years, he found a passion for coloring and proudly shared his artwork. Most importantly, he loved his family and proudly spoke of them whenever given the opportunity. Gerald is survived by his children: David and Tamra Nunes; Mike and Geralyn Betancourt; and Darcy Nunes; siblings Leonard Nunes and Velma Tucker; grandchildren Clay (Miranda) Keathley, Kyle Keathley, Breanna Betancourt, Zachary, Skylar, and Arieana Gutierrez, and Levi Nunes; great-grandchildren Kooper and Adalynn Keathley; and many extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dava F. Nunes; his parents; and his siblings, Joe, Tony, and Mary Nunes. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered. Visitation will be held 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM Wednesday, April 22nd, 2026 at Salser & Dillard Funeral Chapel, 127 E. Caldwell Ave., Visalia. Graveside services will be held 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM Thursday, April 23rd, 2026 at North Tulare Public Cemetery, 4572 North J. St., Tulare.
