George Arlyn Pope, Jr. October 28, 1926 to July 11, 2016 George Pope passed away peacefully on Monday, July 11, 2016 in Visalia, CA at 89 years. George was born in Omaha, NE to George and Irene Watson McGinty Pope. The family moved to southern California in 1929. George graduated from Compton College and attended USC in 1944. While at USC, George met the love of his life, Annabelle Hutcheson, on a blind date. They married in June 1946. George and Annabelle celebrated their 69th Wedding Anniversary on June 15, 2015. Annabelle and George moved to Visalia in 1975. George retired in Visalia from the Southern California Edison Co. in 1986 after 38 years. During his career, they lived in southern California, Lancaster, and central California. George and Annabelle were very involved with the Model A Ford Club of America (MAFCA). George served as National President in 1964 and they were very active in the Charter Oak A’s Chapter in Visalia. Both George and Annabelle were Life Members of MAFCA. George was a Master Mason for 42 years, having been raised in Lancaster Lodge #437 on March 20, 1974. He later affiliated with the Visalia-Mineral King Lodge No. 128. George was active supporter of all Masonic activities. As a result, he received the Hiram Award on January 5, 2005. The Hiram Award is one of the highest honors that may be conferred upon one of its members. He was also a member of the York Rite Masons and the Tehran Shrine Masons of Fresno. George was preceded in death by Annabelle in February 2016. They are survived by daughter Susan Lamoureux and son-in-law Ray, grandson Ray IV, wife Kamber, and great-grandson Raymond V and great-granddaughter Avery Elizabeth, grandson Brad, wife Amanda, and great-grandson Jude, grandson Jeff and wife Kylan, nephews Richard Shaw and Darryl Smithey, and son Harold Pope. George will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a friend to all. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, September 17 at 4 PM at the Visalia Masonic Lodge, 128 W. Mineral King, Visalia.
