Gary Martin Roemer

Gary Martin Roemer, 65, went home to be with the Lord Jesus surrounded by his wife and two children on Thursday, March 30, 2017 at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles, California. Gary was born to Martin and Mary (Salmey) Roemer in Cleveland, Ohio on April 27, 1951. Gary grew up in Canoga Park, California and attended Chatsworth High School and California State University Northridge completing his Bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Business Administration. Gary had an extremely successful career working for 28 years in the pharmaceutical industry and winning many prestigious awards. Gary retired in 2006. Gary and Kathy were married on November 20, 1977 and lived in Idaho for the first two years of marriage. They returned to California in 1980 and lived in Visalia, California for 35 years. Their twins, Gregory and Jaime, were born on July 16, 1982 bringing so much joy into their lives. Gary and Kathy retired together in Oxnard, California in January 2016. They loved spending time together on ocean drives and walks and, of course, sailing Gary’s boat. Gary loved the Lord and studied the Bible diligently to be able to share his faith with all he met. His faith in Christ was first in his life. He also had a great love for animals, and our corgi Bella had a very special place in his heart. Gary had a passion for music, especially jazz, and greatly enjoyed playing his saxophone and clarinet. Sometimes Gary and our daughter Jaime would perform clarinet/piano duets. With his strong intellect and quick wit, he frequently enjoyed making people laugh. He could also be serious, and our twins, Gregory and Jaime, loved talking with their father about everything from the technicalities of linguistics to the mechanics of cars. He also carefully advised them on financial matters, for which they are so grateful. A favorite memory of Jaime’s is the many times he and her mom would take her out to dinner on Valentine’s Day, which made her feel very special in the years she was single. Likewise, a favorite memory of Greg’s was sailing, and working on vehicles together with his dad. The trip across the Channel to Santa Cruz Island is something that Greg will remember the rest of his life. Through the years, our very best of times were spent on family vacations, both camping and special destinations. Gary will be deeply missed, but we know we shall meet again in heaven. Gary is survived by his wife, Kathy Roemer; their twin children, Gregory Roemer and Jaime Purves; and one grandchild, Mykayla Roemer; and two sisters, Connie Juretshke and Sheila Carlson. Forever in our hearts, until we meet again.
