Floyd Vincent Odegaard

Floyd Vincent Odegaard, 87, passed away peacefully surrounded by his wife and four daughters on February 8, 2023, in Visalia, California. He was born on October 1, 1935, in Kenosha, Wisconsin to Daniel V. Odegaard and Alice (Scherrer) Odegaard. After high school he enlisted in the US Marine Corps and was stationed at Camp Pendleton, California. He served three years as a Marine, was wounded in the Korean War and received the Purple Heart. He was proud to be a US Marine and flew the USMC flag for many years. Floyd enjoyed the Southern California weather and settled down in Pasadena where he attended Pasadena City College. He worked part time at Union Oil Company in Downtown Los Angeles in the data processing department where he met his future wife Sandra J. Maurice. They married in July of 1961. Floyd is survived by his wife Sandra, and their four daughters Katherine (Forrest) Brown of Visalia, Laura (Thomas) Stolle of Visalia, Barbara (Thomas) Kelly of Gold Canyon, Arizona, and Kristina (Ken) Sandman of Visalia, California. He was proud of his six grandchildren April, Austin, Katelyn, Christian, Anna and Ryan, and his five great grandchildren Isaiah, Asa, Molly, Jack, and Theodore. He is also survived by his brother Donald Odegaard of Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, and his sister Marianne Mikkonen of Henderson, North Carolina. Floyd's early career included JPL in Pasadena and Continental Airlines in El Segundo, California. When Continental Airlines moved to Denver, Floyd and Sandra stayed in California to raise their family. Floyd went on to teach computer programming at Computer Learning Center, Rancho Santiago College, and Santa Ana College. He and Sandra opened and operated a successful print shop in Santa Ana, California. Floyd, for many years, enjoyed playing golf with his buddies, going to the driving range, and brought home many trophies from the Continental Airlines Golf Chapter. He also enjoyed his beautiful home, yard, and entertaining family with great BBQs. Floyd's greatest pride and joy were his wife of 61 years, his four beautiful daughters, six grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held 8:30 AM Friday, June 30th, 2023 at Visalia District Cemetery, 1300 W Goshen Ave, Visalia. Services have been entrusted to Salser & Dillard Funeral Chapel.
