Ernest William Remillard

Ernest William Remillard Visalia & Prather, CA - Ernest William "Ernie" Remillard, passed away peacefully on April 4th, 2025, in Fresno, CA at the age of 85. Always young at heart, Ernie was known for his humor, generosity, grit, and directness, making a lasting impression on everyone he met. Born to Edgar and Beatrice Remillard, Ernie was the oldest brother to Robert Remillard, Roger Remillard, and Anne Remillard Ryan. Raised in North Adams, MA, Ernie attended Drury High School and excelled in many sports including, varsity football, skiing, track and he also starred in his senior class drama play. After high school, Ernie served six honorable years in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Hardhead SS-365. After his military service he moved west and enjoyed a career with AAA before dedicating several decades to the Tulare County Sheriff's Department. He was blessed with the companionship of two wonderful women in his life. He married his Green Mountain Vermont high school sweetheart Alyce Sweet Finney in 1958, and together they began their cherished family. Following her passing in 1997, Ernie found happiness and companionship with his Prather Mountain Girl Ms. Ede Haungs. An avid outdoorsman, Ernie loved hunting, fishing, golfing, and nearly every sport imaginable. During his years serving in Visalia Optimist Club, working with a great team of other dads, he significantly contributed to youth sports in Visalia, helping to establish the city's first Pop Warner Football program and the Tulare County East-West High School All-Star Football Game. In addition, he helped as an assistant coach in youth sports including Pop Warner Football and Little League Baseball. Throughout his life, Ernie cherished spending time outdoors, sharing stories, laughter, and memorable moments with family and friends. Whether coaching from the sidelines or recounting wild stories from his patio chair, Ernie's zest for life was legendary. Ernie is survived by his beloved partner, Ede Haungs; children Shona Remillard Thiesse (Rick Thiesse) and Shawn Remillard; sister Anne Remillard Ryan (Australia), grandchildren Mathew Sisk (Robin), Denise Mauck (William), Zackary Remillard, Nicholas Remillard; great-grandchildren Starlinn Mattison, Liam Mauck, Owen Mauck; and nephews Scott and Rick Remillard and friends who'll miss his wit, wisdom, and his one-liners. A graveside service will be held Monday, April 28th, at 11:00 AM at Visalia Cemetery, 1300 W Goshen Ave, Visalia, CA 93291. Services have been entrusted to Salser & Dillard Funeral Chapel.
