Douglas K Scarbrough

Douglas (Doug) K Scarbrough passed away February 18, 2024. He was born in Porterville, CA June 14, 1945, to Willie Joe & Kay Scarbrough. He was the sixth of eight children and grew up in Strathmore, CA. Doug attended Strathmore High School, class of 1963, and COS, where he met his beautiful wife, Jilaine (Jill) Janigian, while they both were performing in the COS operetta. They were married within four weeks of meeting, and July would have marked 60 years of devoted love. Doug and Jill moved 10 different times in the first two years of their marriage, while Doug performed professional musical theatre. He then joined the U.S. Air Force, and after winning the Air Force Worldwide Talent Contest, he auditioned and was chosen to be the baritone soloist for the official U.S. Air Force Band and Singing Sergeants. Doug also had the honor to sing in front of five U.S. Presidents, kings and queens, numerous foreign dignitaries, and at NFL and MLB games, as well as film a nationwide commercial, and worldwide TV show. Jill was, and always will be, Doug's biggest fan! Doug loved to entertain, even if it was while he was working at his infamous Top Dog chili dog stand, that he owned for 24 years. Doug and Jill had two daughters, Tracy (Mark) Shannon, and Kara (Brandon) Ford, and six grandchildren: Brooke and Brenna Shannon, and Skylar, Jayce, Dax, and Blaire Ford. Doug considered his family his greatest gift, and always loved when his home was filled with the laughter and joy of his loved ones. Doug/ Dad/ Papa left his family a beautiful legacy that will bless generations to come. He never turned anyone away, and he had the kindest, most giving, and loving heart. He was an upstanding citizen & devoted patriot. He loved God, his family, and his country. He never wavered; he was loyal, trustworthy, compassionate, understanding, handsome, talented, and so very silly. He was a wonderful husband, father, papa, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. Doug touched the lives of so many, and he will be deeply missed! We have comfort in knowing that Doug entered the gates of Heaven, and that God gained an amazing, singing angel. Wish we "could see the angels faces when they hear your sweet voice sing." We love you "BIG BUNCHES", and we "love you more." Until we hug again! A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at 2:00pm at Neighborhood Church, 5505 W. Riggin Ave. Visalia, CA. Services have been entrusted to Salser & Dillard Funeral Chapel.
