Dolores Gallegos

On March 10th, 2026, Dolores Gallegos, beloved mother, aunt, grandmother, and friend passed away at her home in Hanford, California at the age of 78. Dolores was born on Wednesday, January 7th, 1948 to mother Lupe Romero in Corcoran, California. Dolores spent her childhood and school-age years in Corcoran alongside her mother Lupe, her father Manuel Escobedo, and brother Salvador Gallegos. From an early age, Dolores enjoyed school, music, and creating memories with her brother Sal; she was a majorette in high school. She graduated from Corcoran High School in 1968. Dolores worked as a school administrator for two decades while raising her sons Ernie, Anthony, and later Tomas. She went on to receive her Vocational Teaching Credential in Business in 1988 and brought that knowledge to various traditional and alternative educational settings. She taught classes in computer applications, 10 key touch typing, and more to not only prepare but place over 500 students in the job market. She also taught English as a Second Language and job skills courses to migrant farm workers, their dependents and at-risk populations. After being diagnosed with diabetes in the early 2000s, Dolores became a public health advocate and coach, and took pride in her understanding that obesity and related health conditions are the result of a complex variety of social, behavioral, cultural, environmental, physiological, and genetic factors long to inform her teaching well before that framing became public knowledge. Her diabetes advocacy also extended to promote healthy eating and positive self esteem to at-risk individuals in Kings County. Dolores Gallegos served two terms on the Hanford City Council and one term as the Vice Mayor of Hanford in 1999. Her cultural awareness and knowledge of migrant life and subsequent advocacy served her well as she developed partnerships with community organizations, agencies, businesses, and schools and gave public presentations. She is survived by her three sons: Ernie Batrez, Anthony Batrez, and Tomas Venegas; daughters-in-law: Adrienne Gomez-Batrez and Elena (Rios) Batrez; grandchildren: Trevor, Eliana, Isabella, and Alexandra. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents Lupe and Manuel Escobedo and older brother Salvador Gallegos, all of whom she missed dearly. Dolores' family finds great solace and comfort knowing what a warm reunion awaited her at her final destination. Dolores was a lifelong Los Angeles Dodgers fan, an advocate for others, and was known for her beautiful smile, sharp wit and lively disposition. Upon her retirement in 2010 Dolores enjoyed attending sporting events, going shopping, and day trips to San Francisco. She will be greatly missed by her friends, family, and all who knew her.
