David Joshua Howard

David “Boston Dave” Joshua Howard was born in Tulare, California at 2:21 AM on July 5, 1973. He was the first born son of Beverly “Buzzy” Frantz and Charles Howard. He left this world after his battle with cancer at the age of 42 on November 29, 2015. Dave grew up along the central coast and in the central valley of California. He attended Morro Bay High School for three years and graduated from Tulare Union High School in 1991. Dave served in the U.S. Army from 1991-1995 with 10th Special Forces Group out of Fort Devens, Massachusetts. He completed Airbourne training and specialized as a Linguist Interrogator. Following his military service, Dave moved to Boston and took a job as a bike messenger. Within four years he became one of the city’s top riders and later competed in the Bike Messenger Olympics. Dave returned to California in 1999 and worked as a tattoo apprentice, a stage hand in the music industry, and toured for five years with the Warped Tour. Ultimately, he pursued a career as a handy carpenter. Known for clever builds and an eye for perfection, many have appreciated the talented and expansive work of Dave Howard with his array of tools in hand. Born into a family of “gearheads,” Dave naturally picked up the wrench at a young age and throughout his life worked on a variety of vehicles from the engine to body work. His latest project was a frame off restoration of his 1962 Chevy Biscayne. Throughout the years, Dave has made an army of loyal friends that he has shared many adventures, stories, and laughs with. He had a great love for music from artists such as Johnny Cash, The Clash, Raised Fist, and At The Drive In. Armed with a near full body of tattoos and piercing blue eyes, the tough yet sweet Dave Howard will be remembered for his quick wit and fun nature, his fervent loyalty to family and friends, and a readiness to lend a hand whenever or wherever. Dave’s impact on our lives will carry on in the stories we share and the love we have for him. Rest in power. Rest in peace, our beloved Boston Dave. Dave Howard is survived by his mother Beverly/Buzzy and father Charles, his brother Seth and sister-in-law Elizabeth, and nephews Adam and Rowan. Special thanks is given to Dave’s aunt Virginia Welzenbach, girlfriend Cindy Chamberlain, and his mother Buzzy for their loving care and attention in his final days.
