Claire Louise Fossler McConnaughey 4 August 1936 - 9 July 2023 Claire Louise Fossler McConnaughey, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2023, in Visalia, California. Claire was born to Adolf Louis Fossler and Dorothy Jean Porter in Richmond, Indiana on August 4, 1936. She attended Shortridge High School in Indianapolis and continued her studies at Indiana University Medical Center in the school of X-ray Technologies. While at Indiana University, she met the love of her life, Hal David McConnaughey of Hartford City, Indiana, who was in residency at St. Vincent's Hospital in Indianapolis in Orthopedics. They were married June 1st, 1957, in Indianapolis and went on to welcome four sons over the next nine years. In 1965, Claire and Hal moved to Visalia, California, where Hal set up his practice and Claire became an active member of the community. Claire split her time as an X-ray technologist and raising her children. She loved supporting her boys and their activities, particularly in scouting and wrestling. She was very proud that all four of her sons achieved the rank of Eagle. Claire was passionate about gardening, interior design, quilting, holidays, entertaining, and celebrating with her family. She served as President of the San Joaquin Herb Society, Badger Hill Homeowners Association, a member of the Quilters Guild and Tule Gem and Mineral Society. In 1988 Claire and Hal designed and built a lovely home on Badger Hill in Exeter, California. The home had extensive gardens and received an award for xeriscape. The property has been on several gardening tours. In 2003 they purchased a home in Morro Bay, California where they enjoyed spending time with their family and friends. Claire is predeceased by her parents and her husband Hal. She is survived by her four sons and their wives, Kevin & Laura, Eric & Rhonda, Shawn & Donna, and Barry & Barbara, thirteen grandchildren, and twenty-two great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 9:00am on Thursday, July 27th at Visalia United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Kaweah Health Foundation.
