Anthony Emilio Salierno

lt is with a heavy heart that the family of Anthony Salierno, affectionately known as Tony announce his peaceful passing on April 25, 2024, at the age of 85 surrounded by loved ones. Tony was a loving and devoted husband and father. He was born on August 13,1938, in Boston, Massachusetts, to Savino and Luisa Salierno. He was raised in the heart of Tulare County and truly loved giving back to his community. Tony found joy in playing his French horn for various musical groups including St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Tulare County Symphony, and the Sequoia Brass. His passion for music extended to volunteering whenever asked by a music minister. In retirement, when not immersed in playing musical notes, he frequented the Visalia Country Club for golf with friends or aiding local charities. But above all, his greatest happiness stemmed from time spent with his beloved family. As a teenager, Tony changed the letters on the marquee of the Visalia Fox Theatre and was instrumental in developing the Fox Trot to raise money for renovations. He was also a member of the Armed Forces, serving in the Army for 3 years "after altering his birth certificate at the age of 15". He established Provident Mortgage Corporation in 1971, and under great leadership, Provident was one of Tulare County's leading full-service mortgage banking firms. In 1976, Tony married the love of his life, Mary. He loved her dearly, and together, they created an infinite legacy. Tony and Mary established the Provident-Salierno Family Foundation in 1991, a philanthropic non-profit organization supporting dozens of local charities, including CASA of Tulare County, Boys and Girls Club, Pro-Youth, Visalia Emergency Aid, Family Services of Tulare County, Bethlehem Center, the Samaritan Center and many more. Tony was instrumental in bringing the "Provident Skate Park" to Visalia. Tony also helped bring the program "Character Counts" to the schools in Tulare County when he and Mary were invited to meet with the Founder, Michael Josephson at an informational meeting. Tony had a heart for serving his community and supporting the youth of Tulare County. Tony's faith remained a cornerstone of his life, and he found comfort and fellowship at St. Mary's Church in Visalia, where he nurtured his spiritual growth and found strength in his community. With a smile that could brighten any space, he was acquainted with everyone. Knowing him meant loving him. Tony's departure leaves a heritage of affection and dedication that will keep motivating those fortunate enough to have known him. His essence will reside in the hearts of all who encountered him, a beacon of guidance that will enrich our lives for years to come. Tony is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Mary, his son Kurt (Pam) Salierno and his three daughters Cathy Lewis, Stefani Salierno (Jeff) Fisher, and Jennifer Salierno (Ryan) January. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Joshua Lewis, Michelle Boghosian, Mitchell Rhoden, Samantha Rhoden, Michaela Salierno, Gavin Salierno, and four greatgrandchildren who all call him Papa/Pops. He will be remembered by his numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends. He is preceded in death by his son Michael Salierno, his parents, Savino and Luisa Salierno, his nine siblings, a niece and two nephews, and his beloved dog Brandy. A mass will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church on May 16, 2024, at 11 AM, 608 N. Church St., Visalia, followed by a Reception at the Visalia Country club, 625 N. Ranch St., Visalia at 12:30 PM.
