Alfonso Lee Powell

Alfonso Lee Powell, father, son, brother, and grandpa passed away unexpectedly on May 18th, 2023 surrounded by his loving family at the age of 67. He was born in San Francisco, California on August 11th, 1955 to Virginia Herrera and Archie Powell. He is preceded in death by his mother and father, sisters Glenda and Josephine, grandma Herrera, aunt Patsy and uncle Queenie, aunt Mabel and his niece Monica. He is survived by his daughter Felicia (Kevin) Thompson, grandchildren Emma Nichole and Isaiah, great grandson Nehemiah and soon arriving great granddaughter Neviah, and son Jeffrey (Corina) Hernandez. He also leaves behind sister Patricia, brothers Luther, Orlando, and Christopher, cousins Yvette and Lisa who he shared a special bond with, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Alfonso also known as Al, Big Al, attended Mt. Whitney High School. He worked many years in maintenance and management. His passion was fishing and camping and he enjoyed bringing any kids along to teach them the ropes of fishing. He loved cooking for the family, especially his famous fried chicken and chicken enchiladas. He also loved music, especially Reggae and Oldies. In the last 5 years, all he wanted was to spend time with his grandson Nehemiah. Any chance he had, he'd take him to school, to the park and fishing. Their favorite place to go was the Dollar Store. He absolutely adored him. Al had a heart of gold and always made sure everyone was appreciated and loved. He never hesitated to lend a helping hand. He would drop anything and everything when anyone needed something, even when he wasn't feeling well. Al loved the Lord and he will be truly missed, but above all we know that he is at peace with our Heavenly Father. Big Al, my dad, grandpa, papa, we love and miss you. Fly high with the angels. Always with us. Viewing will be held 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM Friday, June 9th, 2023 at Salser & Dillard Funeral Chapel, 127 E. Caldwell Ave., Visalia. Service Of Remembrance services will be held 10:00 AM Saturday, June 10th, 2023 at Salser & Dillard Funeral Chapel. Services have been entrusted to Salser & Dillard Funeral Chapel.
