Manuel Arcenal Kalaw

Manuel Arcenal Kalaw passed peacefully at home on January 21, 2025, with tender care provided by his family and Kaweah Hospice. Maning , as what he is known as, is remembered as a cheerful, intelligent, hardworking, thoughtful and generous example for us all. He was born a leader. Maning was born to Felix and Lorenza Kalaw on New Year's Day, January 1, 1944 in Majayjay, Laguna, Philippines, and was the eldest amongst seven siblings. He wasn't able to finish college but was able to land a job as a Travel Agent. Through his hard work he climbed the corporate ladder and got the managerial level. He was able to help a lot of people by arranging their papers for travelling overseas. One of the people he helped remembered his expressive eyes, his kindness and jolly disposition. In 1973, he married the love of his life, Anicia Suavengco and was blessed by a son, Emmanuel Suavengco Kalaw. Maning also had a short stint in politics in their baranggay. Aside from this, he coached basketball leagues, including his son's team competing in other towns. He enjoyed life with his family traveling out of town and serving the Catholic church. Maning was a devoted Knights of Columbus member and also was an active member of Couples for Christ, alongside his wife, Anicia. They always attended church and prayer meetings to help strengthen their marriage with faith. He was even sent to Rome by travel agency he worked for, and considered it a privilege and an adventure. We are all very grateful for the gift of his Life, and the gift of his Love which forever resides in each of us. Maning then immigrated to Exeter, California in 2001. He spent his retirement exploring cities, traveling, biking around the quaint town and planting different vegetables. He moved to Visalia, California in 2010 after his son got married. He was overjoyed when his family grew, and got three grandchildren, Bella Nicole, Bianca Natalia and Brayden Noah. Most of his days were spent playing with his grandchildren and attending all of their special events. He was a beloved Papa and making memories with them were his greatest joy. Manuel is survived by his wife, Anicia; Son, Emmanuel (Ana Kathrina), grandchildren: Bella Nicole; Bianca Natalia; Brayden Noah, brothers: Ricky (Necy); Steve (Deng); Leo (Mely); Sergio (Charlene), sisters: Pacita (Antero); Dominga; Virginia (Patricio). Manuel has numerous extended family members who each know their special place in his heart. Visitation will be held 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM Wednesday, February 5th, 2025 at Salser & Dillard Funeral Chapel, 127 E. Caldwell Ave., Visalia. Rosary will follow from 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial services will be held 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM Thursday, February 6th, 2025 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 608 N. Church Street, Visalia. Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM Thursday, February 6th, 2025 at Exeter District Cemetery, 719 E. Marinette Ave., Exeter.
