Jerry Gene Snyder

Visalia- Jerry Snyder, 86, went to be with the Lord on January 6, 2018. Jerry was born July 19, 1933 in Lindsay, CA. He was the only child of Chancy and Pansy Snyder. He graduated from Lindsay High School in 1949 and enlisted in the Navy where he served during the Korean War on board the USS Bon Homme Richard. Jerry married his High School Sweetheart, Ilene Crawford, in 1951 and gained 4 brothers- Arnold, Bruce, Jerry, and Larry whom he loved as his own. After his military discharge, Jerry worked various jobs to support his growing family. He and Ilene raised three children: Mike, Steve, and Sharon. He enjoyed spending time with the children and coaching Little League. At age 38, Jerry began his professional career at Buckman Mitchell Insurance and retired as President of the company in 1986. During this time he also served as President of the Visalia Lions Club and spent two years as a Grand Jury Foreman for Tulare County. Church was a very important part of Jerry's life. He and Ilene were charter members at Visalia Community Church of Christ where they enjoyed worshiping and teaching classes. Jerry served as an elder there for many years. During his retirement, Jerry and Ilene enjoyed many happy trips to their 5th wheel in the Pismo area. He also enjoyed golfing, fishing, spending time with family, and volunteering with the Tulare County Sheriff's Department. Jerry had several strokes during the last few years of his life which limited his ability to drive and travel. Still, he could be seen outside on his scooter visiting with neighbors and walking his dogs. Jerry was loved and respected by many. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ilene Snyder of Visalia; their children and spouses, Mike and Joann Snyder, Steve and Lori Snyder, and Sharon and Mike Martin; and his 7 grandchildren and their families: Shaun Snyder; Jay, Erica, Morgan, Hailey, Aubrey, and Madison Snyder; Brett and Samantha Snyder; CJ Snyder and fianc�e McKenzie; Taryn Snyder; Cody, Payson, and Lucas Martin; Kelsey, Matthew, Isla, and Luna Cloud. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 11 am at Visalia Community Church of Christ, 3838 S Court St . Lunch to follow. Arrangements entrusted to Salser & Dillard Funeral Chapel.
