Alejandro Castellanos Torres

On May 16, 2023, Dr. Alejandro "Alex" Castellanos Torres, of Visalia, CA, passed away peacefully surrounded by family. Alex was born in Mexico City on November 22, 1949, immigrated to the U.S. around age 9, and grew up in East Los Angeles. Dr. Torres was a graduate of the University of Southern California - School of Medicine in 1978. He completed his internship at the University of California - Irvine (UC-Irvine) in 1979 and his residency at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, UC-Irvine in 1981. In the 30+ years Dr. Torres practiced Family Medicine and had the opportunity to own his private practice as well as working in physician groups, such as Visalia Medical Clinic. Throughout his career, he maintained membership to the American Medical Board of Family Practice. Dr. Torres enjoyed spending time with his family and traveling. Dr. Torres served as a volunteer with multiple organizations such as Tulare County Sheriff's Aero Squadron Search and Rescue team, YMCA Camp, and Boy Scouts of America. He was a 32 degree Mason, Shriner, and a member of St. Paul's Anglican Church. Dr. Torres was very involved in the governance at KDHCD serving as Secretary Treasurer from 2001-2003, Vice Chief of Staff 2003-2004 and Chief of Staff from July 2004 to June 2005. He had also been a peer reviewer for case management at KDHCD. Dr. Alex Torres was well known and respected in his community and was known to his colleagues, nurses, and patients as a compassionate, caring physician. Alex will forever remain in our memories as a distinguished and accomplished physician but remarkably as a family centered, kind, and loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Survivors include his wife of nearly 20 years, Cathy, 6 children, Jason, Nikki, Adam, Sabrena, Jonathon, and Gabriel. Dr Torres is also survived by his 6 grandchildren, Brayden, Daphne, Tessa, Sully, Morgan, and Weiland. Dr. Torres was preceded in death by both parents and first wife, Deborah. Dr. Alex Torres' funeral service is planned for Thursday June 8th, 11 am at St Paul's School, 6101 W Goshen Ave, Visalia, CA 93291 and will be followed by a Celebration of Life from 1-4 at Tulare Elks Lodge, 1535 E Bardsley Ave, Tulare, CA 93274.
